Okay, so my '98 SE Touring has the dreaded rot, I haven't got the time, or skills to repair it. I really don't want to scrap it, the bodywork is fantastic, as is the interior. The engine is on 135 and is sweet as a nut, I spent loads on servicing it and repairing and replacing all the niggly bits I was able to do myself. The 4x4 system is fine, air con works perfectly.

Runs out of MOT and tax at the end of the month.

Don't know how much to ask for it. I'm stuck and very sad :(

Nik.

whats rotten? could you not pay someone to do it?

The sills I think the MOT man said, just before the rear wheels. I was told it was a body off job to fix it properly? I haven't got the time mate, plus the car is surplus to requirements now - I just don't want to scrap it when someone could maybe trailer it, repair it themselves and have many more years out of it, that would make me so happy :)

rear sills, very easy to fix. Not a body off job.

up to you though

would you say £400 was fair to take it how it is? Has to be worth more than that in parts? I am so busy with everything sadly, I'd love to fix it and keep it going but it's not possible, sadly.

Mate dont sell !!

Pics of rot please

Someone on here will weld it for u

Otherwise Break it your self or you'll sell it for £400 and someone will break it them selves and earn at least a grand out of it

£800

My last T 2 Was a 98 £800 Quid about 4 month MOT Left same reason for letting go wings rotton high mileage but it was a good runner

Don't make me feel bad guys :'( I feel like I'm taking a faithful old collie around the back of the barn to shoot it as it is :(

I live with my mum and dad, and I can't really dismantle it on their drive. Not without a row, anyway!

drive it down to ricks ( solarman 216 ) on the south coast , he will sort the sills / welding out , very reasonably :thumb2

or im sure there are members nearer who would help with the welding etc

I guess the question is, how much will it cost to get it fixed.

As long as it only about £300, plus the cost of an MOT, you could shove it on Ebay, and get about £1500 from what I have seen, which has to be worth while.

I am looking for a bad body low mileage one to nick the engine/gearbox out of, so been looking around the last few weeks, and they still seem to sit at that price for some right old dogs.

tin worm

do not sell - if the welding and MOT came to £500 what would you buy for £500 - another piece of junk that would never see another straight MOT again in its life

just my opinion

I must reiterate, Fix it cheap and keep it, run veg, you can't get more rewarding motoring !

Sounds in better nick than mine, I'll av it:lol

Take it to a proper garage or club member and get it fixed up, you know you want to:thumbs

No offence, but body off job my bum bum botty. Can you get pics please, because if the mot man can see the rot, so can you. Sills easy fix be it inner will or outer sill, you're being had mate.

As said already look/ask about & see if you can get someone to weld it for you but its defo not a body off job, they just don't want the work by the sounds of it.:nenau
its in better nick than mine if its just the sills that need done.

Hi guys, it's not the sill that's rotten, it's the chassis :( Two massive holes...

It's a shame, but the car won't be getting replaced as we've never really used it off road as I have a spinal injury - and it's place has been taken by another motor already, it's kind of been unused for a couple of months :(

And I have to say, I'm a bit overwhelmed by the friendliness and genorisity of you guys over this. I'm proud to have been part of this club, you're easily the nicest, most friendly bunch of peeps I've ever encountered and I've been on hundreds of forums.

Chassis or sill, its still an easy fix and abolutely not a body off job. Can you confirm if its the chassis sill? If so, all a welder does is cut off the outer sill, welds the chassis, and then makes up new out sill and welds on. Seriously, I don't think its as grim as you think, or as expensive. If you sell, don't be robbed, its worth probably £1k or more if you weld those two holes, otherwise a member on here is gonna get a bargain!!

Best of luck though mate:thumb2

Chassis might be a bit trickier depending on where it is and what is around it
