Bad Handling, could it be tyres?

26 psi? I have 40 in mine,on 235/70/15's. Should I deflate a little,then?

Have about 36psi in mine I think. I thought the sticker on the door was for the original stock tyres or something because the markings on the tyres I have on say 36psi. 26psi sounded very low.

Its what it says on the door sticker which is what it says in the handbook chaps.

Can't say any more than that :augie:)

Both of those are way too high, especially the 40psi, and will probably result in poor handling (cos the tyre can't 'spread' when is under extra pressure on bends for example, and therefore loses grip) and excessive wear in the centre section of the tyre....

Hmmmm,feel a little deflatulance coming on.:naughty

I was reading an American offroad forum where one of the guys was bitching about excessive tyre wear on a particular type of tyre in the centre of the tread. He then elluded to having his tyres inflated to 76psi

God bless America!

Ian.

what it says on the side o tyre is usually the max infaltion pressure the tyre will take, not what its supposed to be inflated to during normal running. manufact data should be used for normal driving, if towing/loaded up in boot again the manufacturer will make recomendations one way or other.:)

Hi Racheal:)
If I can help just let me know I am over near Hunstanton but I have a long wheel base T2 so not the same feel as your sport other wise I would be more than happy to let you compare:thumbs also I could go through the 4 wheel drive with you but you say you are already a 4x4 driver so again not that much help.
I used to keep Welsh cobs and Welsh mountain sec B ponies they are the best:clap. I also had an Arab and did long distance riding I am thinking of getting another welsh for driving good luck with the Dressage:thumbs If you ever fancy a ride on the beach and want some where to park up let me know:)
I nearly gave up on my old T2 but the guys on here kept me going and now I love it and would always have another :thumbsItsgreat for towing and in all of this mud its just the job on the smallholding:)
Take care and don,t give up:)

Hello Willow, nice to get an email from you, you are quite famous on here!!

Thanks for your offer of help, i have surprised myself on how much of a relief it has been to hear from other owners. I tend to wind myself up into a panic and then overeact. It sounds daft but this truck means the world to me, as I previously had a 4x4 and trailer and then due to divorce I had to sell it all, but no matter what I was determined to keep my horse. It has taken me 3 years to pick myself back up and I now have to work all hours to afford to just get by, but hopefully once I start taking my horse out to a few places it will all feel worthwhile.

I did wonder if you were a fellow horse enthusiast, hence the truck. I am probably not using the forum right yet as I can't view your message when sending my reply so it is likely that I will miss what I want to respond to. Anyway, I am now more confident about getting the handling sorted but I do now have a more immediate problem with the central locking, so I will need to get my full moneys worth on membership and post another thread so soon!!

I have named the truck 'Herbie' as that is what it is acting like!

Thanks again, really nice to hear from you. Take care. Rachel x

Do tell! What's the problem with the central locking?

Hi Rachel, Think you will soon get used to your Terrano, I bought my Mav swb almost 2 years ago now and it is the best car I have owned to be honest, 16 years old this year, a few niggly problems at the back end of last year, solved by members on here!! We tow a horse trailer pretty regular as my daughter has her own show jumping pony who is connemara x thoroughbred, and also rides my wifes friends 3 welsh section D's. It always feels solid on the road and pulls like a train when towing, even with 2 hefty welsh cobs in the trailer. Just make sure tyres are sound and the info you can get off here in downloads and fellow members help is Awesome!!! Hope the dressage goes well when season starts.
Rich..

be interested to know if it feels any better on the road....

 Dropped them down to 30psi,it does feel better but the door sticker says 26 front and 31 rear although that is for 215's ,mine are 235's. Does feel a bit of a "softer" ride now. Do I really have to say you were right, again?:doh
