Hi all. Been working hard so not been on here recently, but need some advice again. Today I got the orange engine check light up and engine is flat on pull-away, sometimes clears itself with some throttle but then revs itself and the check light (MIL light?) comes back on. I ran it on bio for a few tanks back in the summer and stopped when i kept getting the water trap light up on the dash, but i didn't change the diesel filter as was running fine. Vehicle is a '96 2.7 Tdi Maverick. Any help gratefully received as can't afford to be off the road for long as this is my busy season. :)

change fuel filter.

I run SVO and Diesel mix.

i get the light on if to cold with not enough diesel.

if your running more diesel could just be your filters a bit to bunged up..

when i changed mine it was FULL of CRAP i was amazed it started!!

Thanks Zippy 656, filter got changed today and was found to have a large blob of jelly-like crap in it, most likely detritus from running bio during the summer. Got the truck back running fine with the MIL still lit but it cleared after a bloody good rev up :thumb2

Spoke too soon so congratulations are premature :doh Engine misfired again on next run, illuminating MIL again. This time, I have cleaned the MAF which was black and is now nice and shiney, and put a bottle of Redex into the tank. Initially, this made little difference but, on the run home from Sainsbury after the treatment, the misfire seemed to clear itself and the MAF light has gone out. Keep your fingers crossed for me that it is cured :banghead

Went out to girlfriend's today and had a bad misfire under heavy acceleration over 2,500 rpm. Gave the thing a real bottle of Redex as the previous bottle given was actually STP which it seemed wasn't doing it. Looks to have been an immediate improvement so hope it's sorted at last

Latest state of play is that misfire now only appears under heavy acceleration. Cleaned MAF again today as well as the wire mesh filter which was black too, have now used best part of a spray can of carb cleaner lol. Hopefully the Redex will finish the job as it goes through the system. No longer get the MIL with the misfire and it does pull away better than before the problems started but the idle still seems a little lumpy.
