Well my shiny new hubs have turned up, but I'm a bit confused :?

The detailed download shows how to grease them up when installing, yet the instructions in the box clearly say:

MAINTENANCE
None required. AVM Free-Wheeling Hubs are permanently lubricated. In case it is necessary to dissassemble unit for inspection, NEVER USE GREASE. Wash components with kerosene and lubricate lightly with SAE30 oil.

To grease, or not to grease.. :?:

I beleive the earlier ones (like mine in the down load) needed grease and the newer ones dont, they have some kind of coating perhaps? I would stick with the instructions in the box rather than our download in this case

use copperslip grease. i think if you use ordinary grease on autos they dont work, but i could be wrong

I think you could be too  he has new AVM manual hubs

Right - that's the hubs fitted then!

But... the download guide for fitting them is incorrect (or at least it is for my '98 SWB Maverick without ABS). I've assembled it all without grease, as per AVM's instructions, but #6 on the download tells you to refit the two washers (the splined one and the brass coloured tabbed one). If you refit the tabbed one, when you bolt everything back together, the hub is almost locked solid. Leave that washer out and there's a bit more 'endfloat' at the driveshaft, but everything turns freely.

Does the download need updating - it looks like AVM have modified their hubs...

PS. discovered a bit of play in the NSF wheel bearing too...
