Hi all drove on M62 today got near Leeds 50mph until i got off at Huddersfield turn off, what my question is, has any of you guy/girls out there been done for speeding through these type of cameras ?(Average Speed Cameras the) reason i ask is that a friend that has been working on the Motorway, shifting hardcore he is a wagon driver.
He says there is some guys just watching the cameras from a cabin at side of motorway, not that intrested in speeders. what do you all think?

i agree with Geoff ....the average speed cameras were active, on the m4 stretch between jct24 and jct 28 Newport, as i have heard a few people got fined

got then on M1 now and are controled via centre on notts owned by H.A.T.O and can control then when reduce speed aswell

been in control centre and seen sorry folks used to play golf with some so they are active not just for show just guess it depends on who controls them

Same as west side of M25, variable speed limits, digital cameras sending images straight to ticket issuing centre. No messing about. Got flashed there once but never got a ticket though.
Here stories about changing lanes to fool average speed cameras, driving on the hard shoulder past the first one, hiding behind lorries, etc. etc.
My philosophy now is, don't speed, and you won't get caught speeding.:nenau

well lets look at this logically, these limits are imposed on road works areas predominantly, why? because there are guys working very near the road that you and everyone else is travelling on, granted there may be cones between you and them, but cones are not a lot of defence, if I was working in those conditions I would need a 50 mph limit minimum or less, so these average speed cameras are necessary although many are not active, problem is you have no way of knowing if they are active or not, so stick to the limit, having said all of that when you come across these limits during a weekend when no one is working it becomes a joke, but they will do you none the less, Rick

dont speed then:thumbs

Indeed! It's an entirely optional revenue. Find it hilarious when people refer to it as a stealth tax. Most taxes aren't so optional!

Do I drive everywhere like grandma? No. I just drive underpowered cars that can be a lot of fun at the speed limit.

The original approval only covered use on one lane at a time, however the approval has been modified to include either lane now, so that loop hole has been closed.:doh

Supergnome it's all about safety . The safety of the workforce, just as rick said, but also the safety of drivers. Hit something at 50 and it's going to hurt a lot less than hitting it at 70.

I've got a video I took from my cab on the M25 last year where I was driving against the traffic with just the temporary barrier between me and the lorries. It was scary !
