So me and the missus found this place online, we thought it would be very tame and commercialised but we were wrong, we got stuck 3 times a maverick died, and we rescued 3 vehicles :lol

This place can be hired by clubs for 200+ vat! and it would be perfect for us as some people don't like scratched trucks :thumb2

Pictures to follow again... As it deleted my very long post :(

It's a good place I use it a bit as its only 3/4 hour away from me. The northants4x4 club I'm in had it for a weekend last month I think the owner is in the club with us.

We got stuck in boggy mud, it went up to my bumper

Couldn't move atall, maverick to the rescue!!

These two decided to try and save me, got stuck themselves and then I ended up winching one out :lol

Stuck again in the muck :doh

On way to help too, landy n trooper still stuck :lol

Winch in action

Maverick... RIP

Nice open area

Death of the maverick :(

Tried to help... Starter packed up, coils died, sparks were soaked, the s ok'd n water coming out his exhaust was epic too  in the end it wouldn't even start on tow

Then I mis judged the path and didn't see this.. And go very stuck

Forgot the spare underpants

There's some flex for you Steve :doh

Rescued by a er... Land r****

Fairly mucky pup

The next two are for Steve and Elty, telling me my engine is too clean :thumbs

Nice pics.
Looks great fun.
Now your engine bay looks like its been off roaded at last.

Looks like you had a good day, but it does worry me you are taking that car around with all that stuff loose in the back, especially 20Kg of Veg oil right behind your head.

I always strap it all down, and put the load cover over to try and slow it down a bit more, as it is scary how much and how easy stuff moves when going up and down hills, let alone the day you finally do stick it on it's side.

Yes very true dude, but if you look closely you will see the seatbelt through the handle of the barrel and into the tensioner then tied as tight as it will go :thumbs

Alex if you are going to do that you need a snorkel, but looks like you had a great day, I am looking at November 9th definite and will try for Oct 26th if I can these are both near Arundel, I have a joker with a road going Rangi with low profile tyres that thinks he is the bees knees cos he says he has 3 diff locks plus traction control and can go anywhere, seems odd to me to have all diffs locked and then have traction control but maybe traction control is for road going use, any way he said he will come next time I go so need to go asap, Rick

That sounds good and yes I need a snork, only problem now is what I believe to be a dying cv joint. Resells bad clonking when driving in 4wd and turning steering (not the full lock steering stops)

Alex, I can't believe how much loose stuff you had in the back of your truck  I know it's been said above and that you're new to all this but please take the advise. All that stuff will set about you and cause you great sadness as it will have you sooner or later  Box it and tie it down. In fact for PnP days I'd have none of that at all.
It seemed also that you were winching without a wire blanket and at 90 degrees to the truck you were pulling :( Bad joo joo will happen, stop it :question
All that said it looks like you had a blast and I'm very jealous :)

Hehe cheers dude, advise taken, we were winching at a few funny angles yes but I did decline the first suggestment when he tied the winch cable round itself around the tow bar, I said no :p

No excuses really but once we get our new house I will have my own garage for storage. In the men's time is there anything good I could use to secure it?

Old army amo boxes are good and also you can get proper tie down hoops and bolt them to your boot floor. Ebay is your friend :thumb2
It's worth while going on an organised 4x4 handling course if you get a chance , just to open your eyes to tips n tricks n safety etc
Better still join up with 4x4 response for example

I like the sound of the 4x4 response :thumb2

Just out of curio, as I couldn't come behind that 4x4 to winch due to the muck being there (loss of traction) how are you supposed to winch?

You could fill a book ;) However a snatch block would be the first thing I'd use . Maybe attached with a tree strop or another truck. Depends on the terrain etc

As Makeitfit says, gets some boxes, like stacker crates or such, and then get a cargo net from Ebay, only a few quid, and use the 4 tying down eyes that are already on the floor of the boot, better than nothing.

The trouble is, the 2 tying down eyes at the front of the boot are not so easy to get to, so I have fitted some strapping bridges to the top of the wheel arch, and further back in the boot as well, and use the one inch webbing straps over things, and through handles, to make sure it is all well tied down.

I have several of the cheep aluminium flight cases I have acquired over the years, which I use, as they stack nicely, and allows me to have different ones for different needs, e.g., cold weather stuff, SE4x4R stuff, Radios, standard tie downs, trailer tie downs, amber beacons..... and swap them as needed.
