aux power sockets

hi guys the 2 power sockets one in the boot and one in the back are not working lighter on the dash is is it a seperate fuse for the 2 spare ones

It must be as the one in the boot is permanently live, and the one in the dash is ignition fed, don't know about the one in the back though.

Fuse box under the bonnet has a maxi fuse that covers the two aux power sockets, from memory 50amp. I had to order one from my local incompetent Nissan dealer

"Maxi fuses" on ebay. only about £1 each. ( buy a few :nenau).

BUT What has caused a 50 Amp fuse to blow....

If you have a tow bar, check the socket in case they took the live feed from this circuit as there could be a short circuit in the rear connector, or a damaged cable or poorly made connection that is shorting.

Make sure you get the right physical size, I couldn't get one at a factors!

rustic is right, why has such a big fuse blown! have you overloaded the sockets? if not maybe you ought to start with checking the wiring in case it's shorting somewhere, pull the sockets out and look at the terminals on the back first!

Plank is right about me being right about this issue.

If you have a multimeter, since the fuse has gone, you can set the meter to resistance measurement, and measure between the positive and ground terminal of each faulty socket.

The resistance should be infinate, ie open circuit.

To test the multimeter, if you short the multimeter leads to them selves to check the meter, the reading should be 0.0 ohms, depending on the range.

update

ok you electrical gurus further to the aux power sockets not working here is where i am up to.
The 30amp maxi fuse in the engine bay fuse box is ok
The aux power socket in front of the rear seats shows 1 volt but not steady sometimes one somtime 0.8 volts.
The aux socket in the boot shows nothing on multi meter.
I have swapped the sockets from front to back with the same results

The missing courtesy light looks like it was removed as the door switch appears faulty
any help/pointers would be great thanx

The common factor could be the "Accessory Relay" this relay switches power from the 30A fuse you have checked and should provide power to both the rear sockets.
Could be a faulty relay or the connections/wiring to it.
See page EL-105.

Its in the relay box M30 under the bonnet, it is located on the o/s nearest to the wing.
Relay M803 (accessory relay) is the second one back from the front of the relay box.
All shown on page EL-256.

are you talking about the cigar lighter type sockets? if so the one in my dash and the one behind the handbrake (for back seat passengers) are only live when the ignition is on. The one in the boot area is permanently live :thumb2

If you can locate the accessories relay (m803) check across terminals 3 and 5 for continiuty with ignition in acc or on (or just check for voltage at 5).
Terminal 5 directly feeds the front power socket (behind handbrake) and another power socket relay that powers the rear power socket.
