For the last month we've had a noise coming from the car that can only be described as a cog slipping kind of sound.
It doesn't happen every time we drive it and is very adhoc except its usually around 25-30mph speed.
I've been under it several times and found nothing.
I thought it might have been the brakes but only 5 weeks since MOT so assumed if it was they'd have spotted something and i couldn't actually find anything visible to the eye anyway.

Ultimate fear is that it could be gearbox on its way out.
As it's an automatic i'm assuming it won't be cost effective to replace the gear box if it is that.

Has anyone else had a similar noise/ problem?
Many thanks dave

yes .
do you have abs on these ?

could also be a worn brake ring in the auto hubs , i had one that kept trying to engage every now and then

check and possibly change transmission fluid it wont hurt will it

We haven't got either ABS or automatic hubs. Mine are manual.

When i checked underneath there was an occasional clicking noise from the hubs as i rotated the wheel.

Is there likely to be a brake ring in the manual hubs?

wouldnt have thought so because its either engaged or not , but it must have some mechanical parts. pete or terranosorus would know .

how are the drive shafts?

if you hit the 'quick links' tab at the top right of the screen there is a download section and in there is a guide to fitting manual hubs, there are some wonderful photos of a job well done by experts, that may give you an idea of what is going on inside a manual hub :thumb2
