Is there anything 'special' about these aerials or will any old universal replacement do ??? Mine obviously 'stripped a gear' or something and I'm wondering if I need to replace the whole thing or just the aerial insert - someone once said to me these were a ford specific part and that universal auto aerials wouldn't fit ... hence my original question ... all replies gratefully received ....

Dont know for sure about the Maverick. My Terrano 2 aerial packed up after a visit to a tyre depot, they probably put up on ramp extended and hit the roof. Or it may have just packed up.

I tried a couple of universal ones long and short neither would fit. It needs to be a special Nissan or Ford one. Inquiring of Nissan Dealer £160 and Ford were about the same. I ended up fitting a roof whip above the drivers rear view mirror. Cost of job £12 for a high quality aerial. Result far better performance than a wing mounted aerial. Electrical aerials have always been a pain.

You should be OK if you only need to fit the telescopic section and nylon drive cable, if mechanism and base is OK.

thanks radicalmac .... you kinda confirmed my suspicions .... in the meantime I'd phoned the local ford dealer who said 'about 200 quid for a replacement' .... eeek ! .... I was edging towards a roof mast but the vehicles parked on the road and some of the fun loving locals like to pull badges and aerials orf .. so I'm going for a replacement mast I think ...
