Hi All

I am in the process of cleaning my auto hubs but I have broken bit and wondered if it is replaceable. It is not really part of the hub is the bit that connects to drive shaft. It is a circle slightly ribbed bit of metal and it did have two keys in middle that connected it to hub bit this one has only one, one have snapped off. I hope someone understands what it is and could let me know if it is replaceable.

Thanks

Carl

Sounds like what is known as the Brake ring, if you've had problems with your hubs then that is what caused it. You buy them as a pair (one pair is for one side), last time I bought some they cost about £35. There's lots of posts regarding these and I'm pretty sure you'll find an exploded view from the owners manual in one of them.

( long story )

Hello there
Thanks Zippy
Yep read my post hello from norfolk and my 4x4 probs
If you dont have time all I can say is
Fit manual hubs
there will be loads along soon to say different.
Yours may not be as bad as mine were but I went through the process of rebuilding the auto hubs only to have the brake ring snap again.
So I fitted manual hubs and all is fine now
The rebuild of the autos cost £40.00 a side
Fitting the manual hubs cost
£50 a side but now it works great and to be honest it is no hardship to turn the wheels to 4x4 and get on with the job I leave mine in 4x4 all the time on my land and for short trips on the road I just use the gears in the cab to go between the 2 and 4 wheel drive
good luck:thumbs

How much

Hi Willow, how much did your manuals cost?
Were they new ones or s/h?
With yours on can you actualy drive on tarmac with them engaged for a few miles in 2 wd and then pop into 4wd mode again
for the next track?

hello makeitfit

Manuals came fron milners 4x4 google it and they pop up they cost £50 each so £100 then you fit them.

Yes in the morning if its been wet and I know I will need 4x4 I just turn the hubs to 4x4 and drive as normal until I need the 4x4 and then put it into gear
in the cab if I dont need it I knock it out of gear I go on road for 5 miles to one of my fields and leave it in the 4x4 but out of gear in the cab its fine but i do not go over 40 mph
Hope this helps:thumbs:)

Cool I didn't realise they were so cheap:sly
I'll have to service mine soon so may go manual instead:cool:

Hi All

I think I will put manuals on when I have spare cash to get them.Tyres are next hubs after, I put my autos back on yesterday after strip and clean (with broken brake ring) and the have stopped clicking now when i try to disengauge them so I hope they will be ok for time being better then they were. I have new problem today I was hopeing to change oil and filter today but the sump plug is well and truly stuck in the sump any ideas on getting it out safely wothout breaking sump.

i had the same problem.went for a drive to get everything nice and hot then i put a 2ft breaker bar on and gave it a tap with the lump hammer and that loosened it up.let it cool down for a while before i totaly removed the sump plug.i also replaced the sump plug washer as it had not got one.thats probably why it had seized up solid.
