hi how can i determine if a auto hub is l/h or r/h???? thanks:thumb2

are they not the same? got me thinking now:doh

im not to sure, someone will be on to tell us soon hopefully.

they have to be sided as because you reverse to turn then off (hope that makes sence)

the ratchet system inside would work in opposite directions

i've got a bloody head ache now thinking about them, hope someone hurries and puts us out of our misery. :lol:thumb2

NO it doesn't, its not a ratchet. The turning motion of the driveshaft causes the gears inside to engage.

They aren't sided.

If you engage 4x4 whilst in reverse you need to pull forward after you have gone back to 2wd to disengage the hubs.

They only disengage when there is no torque being applied by the driveshafts and they are being turned in the opposite direction to which they were initially engaged.

Though like all transmission components my personal preference would be to only use them on the side they have been used on before, though really its not like halfshafts etc where they will have been flexed and twisted in one direction already, so its probably not critical.

ok thanks for that. can i check they are good without fitting them to a car?:thumb2

take them apart. but its not the hub that breaks usually

its the rings and washers outside the hubs that go ( between the hubs and the wheel bearing)

willow did a thread on it, but wont add it here its hundreds of pages long:nenau

on some really rough ones the hubs rust up . but very un common
