Any one got a step by step guide to removing an auto box from my t2.
Thanks in advanced

depends how you are doing it, full workshop facilities or on your drive, I would not recommend on your drive, as first you need to get your motor supported well high in order to get the clearance to get the box out, and you will need two men and a horse to manipulate this well heavy and unbalanced lump out, also you have to understand that the converter has to come out with the box, this means 4 very tricky bolts to be undone from the drive plate, this is very very very important, Rick

Cant you remove the gearstick like on the manual.I dont even jack them up at all to remove the manual box until its on the floor then only to slide out past the chassis

Never done an auto but when I did the clutch on my old one I made a cradle for my trolley jack to take the weight of the box.
Drove the front end up the ramps then when I took the weight off of the torsion bars there was just enough clearance to get the box out.

Truck is right up in the air have had a good look and have made a judgement that the job in hand is way above than what I could do on my drive, so I have phoned around and found a local garage that will do the job for me for £190 + oils so that's my plan thanks for all your help guys

it is a big job for a drive way but again all depends how confident you are with the spanners.
price sounds fair enough:thumb2

Mark, when you have had it done, if he seems good, can you let me have the details, as I think I will need my clutch doing soon, and at the same time, I will look into getting a re-con gearbox fitted. I just have no idea of who I could trust to do the work.

getting it out is easy, getting it back in again is a whole different ball game, Rick

hope they understand what is involved, £190 is to my mind for a garage, cheap, the torsion bars and rear cross member have to be removed, and they must remove the torque converter with the box by removing the 4 drive plate bolts if they try and cut corners as Briggies garage did and leave the converter in place then the drive plate will be damaged when refitting the box and will fail dramatically, grill them on this befor they start, Rick

Exchange gearbox done the guy had to extend a bracket and some plugs to get it to fit but all working ok, new oils in and he even changed my diff oil.
I sourced the gearbox at a cost of £200,
He changed the box and refilled the oils for £280
All done in a day and half. That's me happy now, but skint.

That's a reasonable price from the garage :clap
