Is it worthwhile visiting a few auctions I wonder .... rumour has it there are plenty of old/cheap 4x4's to be had at auction .... looking for SWB Maverick/Terrano - faults ? well apart from the usual rust and obvious misuse what else is there ? wheel bearings ... and ?

Gearbox and clutch but difficult to diagnose without driving.

Free wheeiling hubs - sometime broken, sometime rendered inopperative (ring removed) by previous owner as cheaper than repairing

MAF problems on 2.7TDi and 2.4i petrol

Water pump on diesels seems common

Anti-roll bar drop links - though if you're after an off roader you may wat to bin the ARBs anyway

Look for rust at the rear of the cills and in the front (seam against bulkhead) and rear (seat belt mount points) wheel arches.

Just seen one at Bawtry Motor Auctions as i drove past.

Thanks for help ..... I'm 'drooling' over shunt555's mav at the mo' and adding my pennies up .... if that doesn't come off then it'll away to Peterborough auction ..... have a good christmas all .....

I've facet joint syndrome .... accute back pain .... thought 'cured' but it came back with a vengeance .... so - a vehicle to step up into is the thing to have .... I either buy cheap - guessing from £300 at auction and an unknown quantity or I search for a private sale around £600 to £800 or I buy shunt555's which is right at the top end of my loot ( help I have no money left if it goes wrong kinda thing but its running hot favourite if I can get my act together) .... the nearest it would get to 'offroad' is driving a dirt track to get to the river (fishing) ... and I've been stuck once or twice and last Mav I had was a godsend on a couple of occasions ... thass the story folks ! .... aoart from all of which I like Mavericks
