Never heard of Malatesta Koala tyres.
Just googled them and it seems they are remoulds.

Yes they are. But SOOOOOOOO superior to what they used to be. Technology has come a long way since 50mph MAX remoulds

Next set due in 60k... You think you'll total 90k out of a set then. Bloody good going if you do.

A mate of mine is upto about the 85K mark on a 110 defender and he drives it to Moroco at least once a year and his house in france towing trailers etc etc.

I do mostly motorway miles to essex and back from the north east 270 each way and 60 mles a day before a few jollies here n there.

Even if I get 60K they will be so much better VFM than the Bridgestone Dullers and it hasn't fallen off the road in the winter yet!:thumbs

I got General Grabbers which have done 10k miles and still look like new. Pretty pleased with them. BFG's are the only other ones I'd really consider as an alternative, but that's just my own preference

has anyone tried goodyear wrangler at/sa ?. as im thinking of trying these . I don't do off roading yet but I live on a hill where when it snow we get stuck . so this is my frist 4x4 and I want some good road tyres that would be good in snow aswell

I don't go off road, well I drive round a wet field sometimes. But I still went for BFG - I bought 5 part worn - because I know from reviews that they last longer than any other tyre, not loud, good in snow and a wet field. Last year the estate manager was having a chat and he said his BFG are 40k miles and they were not half worn. His defender gets worked hard.

I have been in the 4x4 owning game for a long, long, time. And I made my choice for Koala's based on experience, so far they are wearing well and (despite the price from the wrong site) are around half price to the BFGs) and there is always the possibility of uneven wear and damaged tyres, so even if they only do half the miles I will be no worse off plus the bonus would really be in the event of damaged tyres :thumb2

Plus the availability of BFGs across a range of sizes is in question, a lot of places list them but don't have them and they are being replaced by their new patterns slowly but surely so for how long will replacements in your size be around?

Don't get me wrong BFGs are good bu they aren't brilliant and they are expensive. I have run them on lots of 4x4s and even bought 3 full sets brand new!

But for me at £140 plus fitting a corner a full set make them in the region of £750! and I put 5 koalas on mine for under £350 fitted and balanced! It is an old car, the oldest one we own (2004) and spending that sort of cash on tyres for an old car and then driving through hedges and over rubble seems maddness!

Not getting into all the remould debates we have had them so often it's old news now, but like they say you can't give experience away :thumbs

Nice post that Plank.

Thanks, the risk of damage to tyres is ever present and BFG are not immune! And most of us are running cars that don't justify spending £7-800 on a set of tyres!

You may drop on a bargain part worn set, particularly for 15 inch rims , but what about repeatability? if you bust one tomorrow what then?

I investigated all the popular 'remould' options, including Insa and Fedima, (I bought a set of Insa's and I wasn't impressed!) I then tried these based on their reputation, the companies web site info, and they have a bead protection rim and the highest load/speed rating of any of the competitors!

I won't call it a 'no brainer' as a lot of thought went into it and if I didn't think they were a good buy I wouldn't say so just because I had them. :thumb2

Dueller H/T 840s on mine. Fitted as standard from the factory, I believe. Don't forget there are several Dueller models though? The H/T 840 is OE. I use mine predominantly on tarmac, but with maybe 20% off-road, & they give me over 33mpg in my 3.0. Good grip on, and off-road, and fairly quiet too. Anyone who struggles for wet or dry grip with these tyres is asking far too much of their wagon in the first place and is heading for a ditch near you in the very near future :lol

I have a pair of Kingpin AT's on the back of mine (have been on it since I bought it) been very happy with them and as the fornts now need new tyres I popped over to the factory yesterday and picked up another pair for the front, just need to get them fitted now. They have a BFG tread pattern.

Just before I got rid of my RAV 4, I had a puncture in one. No spare so I used the sealant :thumb2.

Drove to ATS, £180  - checked all around locally no real difference in price - need the car so I said OK. Fitter came out "sir all your tyres are cracked and need replacing":eek::eek: I was expecting that anyway as I had already spotted them. Need the car and I had a campsite booked near Dover in 2 weeks time so I said OK :(:( Went to Toyota garage to replace the sealant - "That will be £55 sir" - - "Do you still have the plastic pie that goes in the bottle" - No I chucked it with the rubbish it was covered in sealant - "You need the full kit then, that will be £65" :doh

That is why I got rid of the RAV and went back to Terri :thumbs.

The big off roaders will probably laugh but I always use Scorpions. Lot of high speed work, caravan towing and play off road
