Since i've adjusted my torsion bars i've noticed a clonk, so I got my son to bounce to the side steps & sure enough the noise was there & found it to be coming from the ARB drop links.I had a closer look & the rubbers have split & there is now a lot of play in the ball joint part. I've order a new set & am hoping the will come with the rubber buses aswell  The hole in the bottom arm looks quiet big. After reading the down load on it i'm thinking of fitting some large repair washers on top of the holes & poss the old concave washers (once cleaned up) on top of the repair washers to try & stop them from pulling through the arm & to aline the link rods up better
Would love to hear your views on this about the old concave washer bit.

sweety i had that exact problem until 3 days ago i reverse of my drive at an angle and you would a massive clonk never new what it was so i replaced arb link with standard rubber bushes that came with and eight days later rubber split and killed the link so i bought polyuratheane bushes complete 2each side and 2 big ones for the arb itself clonk away and it fells alot better now smoother i think regarding concave washers i used the standard washers that came with arb bush package i don't seem to have a problem

Well I managed to get them done today & I can honestly say it was a bit of a pig to do  I had to drop the ARB & then had to grind the old ones off as they were rusted solid & put a few small pit marks in the kitchen window from the odd spark off the grinder    I had to fit repair washers as the old links had been cutting into the bottom arms, but when I came to fit the new washers for the nut under the arm they wouldn't fit into the hole in the bottom arm   So I ended up cleaning the old ones up & using them instead but fitted one washer against the underside of the arm then the bush follow by the last washer & nut to try & stop the bush getting pulled through

arb bushes

i recently did my front arb bushes and droplinks with the kit from milners but i still get the clonk, think it must be the steering stops as its only when i'm on full lock pulling off the drive.slapped loads of grease on them to see if that will keep it quiet.so far so good

It sounds as if it was your lock stops as mine used to grind  so replaced them last year but have noticed the new ones are almost shot  so will be just slapping loads of grease on now instead of getting new ones

droplinks

i didnt bother replacing them have been told by a couple of mav owners that the nylon caps dont seem to last very long so i just cleaned them up and put loads of grease on them.need doing again as i jet washed the underneath after sundays lanes day and blasted most of it off.have you by any chance done the rear arb as ive got the bush kit for it but not got round to doing it yet.just wonered if its as much of a pain as the front.

No I have'nt done the rear ones yet as they are still holding to gether  I'm sure Hb has done them before & a few others so they should be able to help you with this

Has HB got any ARB's left on his motor???

went to wales at the weekend, while going around a tight bend on a hill side a little fast something went TWANG on the underside of the car!! thought maybe it was the rear anit roll bar as its been clonking for a while now. just fitted my avm manual hubs, and while cleaning up the suspension noticed this...

Picture

oops! maybe i should slow down

managed to remove the drop link, but the ball doesnt want to budge so looks like the whole arb will have to come off for now. tbh, i didnt even notice it had gone, handling was the same so either the joint has been on its way for a while now, or maybe it didnt do much to the handling in the first place. suppose ill only know that when i get around to replacing it

It's prob been on it's way out for a while  as my front end now seems a bit stiffer on the road now i've replaced the drop links

drop links

its actually easier to replace the drop links with the roll bar off as you dont have to remove the bump stops to get at them.had to grind mine off as they were seized on solid.the bushes had pulled through the wish bone and one had sheared off just above the nut.got mine from milners for about a tenner each.
