im thinking of purchasing a twin axle caravan probably around 23ft long around 1600kg wondering if my terrano2 would pull it ok or have i got to think about bigger motor too, your views would be helpfull anyone towed any of these in past

I am about to tow my 1500kg (single axle) caravan 265 miles to Norfolk next week, plus all the other bits you take.

You should have no problems towing 1600kg. The manual T2 27TDI is good for 2500kg's

Alan

When my boat is on it 's twin axle trailer it is over 26 feet long, just over 7 feet wide and gross weight slightly over 2 tonne. Sits about 9- 10 feet off the ground.

I have the Td, and have done the run from Cheshire to the Norfolk Broads many times.
No problems at all.

Not very steep roads, but the A11 has a few long inclines with a standing start at the bottom.

I have to be aware of it being there as it likes to cruise at 70, so I have to make a big effort to keep it at 60 ish...

Now fuel consumption... We would need to start a new thread on that one, but lower 20's, max 24.
I was thinking about on road re-fuelling, like the in air refuelling of air craft, but I couldn't interest any major fuel company.:lol:lol::lol
Oh and they wanted paying too...:doh

I regularly pull a twin axle car trailer with a LWB T2 on it, no problems at all, Rick

Dont worry about it, the T2 will pull that alday long. They built to pull stuff and have a great tow weight of just under 3 tons.

Even if the caravan is heavey you only need the power to get it moving. A pallet truck can lift 1 ton and a person can pull that as it only needs 20 kilo of force to get it moving.

of course it will! search for some of my old threads to see the sort of caravans I tow with mine. 23ft and 1800k? a little tiddler of a trailer :augie

bear in mind I tow almost every day :thumb2

And we have a Roma supreme that weighs 2600k that gets dragged around from time to time :thumb2

an after thought is your an auto? their max towing capacity is 1800k (I think)

as opposed to 2800k for a manual :thumb2

what he says and then some. T2 made for tugging.

1660kg is weight of my t/a, absolute faith in it.

few years ago green flag may day (caravan club)
aquired couple of t2's so that members could borrow
them to replace their own broken down cars.

fact t2 could tow any uk domestic caravan says
something about faith this large organisation put
in nissan's finest. note they bought t2s, not paths
or any other (green oval) 4x.

get on with it.

We've pulled a triple axle 20ft flatbed trailer no problem:thumbs

my 1660kg comes just in at 85 % ratio. note there is no law
to this weight, though is a recommendation of the caravan
council/club. as i recall its best not to exceed the weight
unless experienced at towing.

clearly with a gross tow weight of 2800kg for the manual
2.7tdi theres plenty of room for more. 2800 kg is of course
the max restart weight on a 1 in 8 incline.

ours can tow at 60 happily though I can feel caravan more
than I could on patrol which of course was much heavier
and it ratio was around 65%!

take time, afterall a caravan on the back is usually a holiday
so better to get there a little bit longer and in one piece.

If you really want to know what they can pull, Sit back relax grab a coffee. Im going to really impress you.

Do you remember the snow we had in January about 2 years ago, it closed all the roads as it came so fast, i was at work at the time and work for a distribution company. Just out side our yard is a hill to get back to the main road, I dont know the gradient, but if you got to google maps and put in DE55 2FH thats where i am.

Anyway as the snow fell, the lorrys being unloaded started getting stuck and blocking the yard, at the time i did not own a T2 but my dad did, so i phoned him to come down and bring a tow rope.

The T2 not only pull several 44 ton trucks out of our yard but aslo up the hill to the roundabout. It was in low box and im guessing the minimum weight would of been around 16 ton on an empty lorry up to 44 ton loaded. But the T2 did it.

And thats why i bought one! :clap

There brilliant these trucks, but very underestimated by people:doh. But mate, you've got a maverick not a t2:augie:nenau

Dads was the T2, and a Maverick is a Terrano with a Ford badge on it. Its like supmerman but in truck form, its in desguise :lol
