Gearbox filler is on near side half way up....

are you sure? on my 2.4 petrols it is on the off side, if you are correct that makes the boxes petrol/deisel different, I knew the ratios were not the same but complete box?? cncfabs should know, Rick

well it was a short hose and it was cable tied to the fuel filter...

you've got me thinking now...:doh

I changed my clutch and release bearing about 3 months ago, when removing the torsion bars fully unwind the tension/position nuts then they just drop out. Struggled like hell for ages trying to pry out until we undid the nuts :)

Mine was making a knock like diesel knock when in neutral and clutch depressed, drop clutch sound would go, after changing clutch etc been running like a dream. Took about 8 hours to do but was on a ramp and had help of a mate who is a mechanic when ever he wasn't busy on other stuff.

That's good to hear bud :)

I think I will change gearbox oil and just run it, see what happens

bout over filling i thought i read some where on here was bad as the oil would leak out the input shaft:nenau dont no how true that is

It's the front bearing that tends to run dry that causes the failure, if I can recall.

Certainly over filling beyond a certain amount can cause issues, that's why I suggested fill on level ground, then jack up then add a known amount, say 200 ml extra. Filling from the gear lever plate, can leave the wrong oil level.:doh

Some add more.... some less, but molyslip will help to coat the bearings so they are better protected if they start to run dry

Best regards,

Rustic

Has anyone ever had the drain plug stuck in and wont come out at all. I've had 3 seperate garages fail to remove it for fear of cracking the case.

never not been able to remove one yet, if it is that tight that a 2 foot knuckle bar will not move it, then just apply some heat to the box around the plug that it becomes too hot to hold hand on for more than half a second and it will fall out, Rick

Half inch drive end fits nice in plug never had a problem shifting any of the plugs in box or axles
