Evening all,

I recently had a worn set of BF goodridge MT tyres removed and a set of smaller (235/70/16) Insa turbo Dakar boots fitted by a mate, the balancer they used was throwing up some huge weights needed to balance them.

I suspect the machine was not really suitable for bigger wheels, the cone that centres the wheel was nearly all the way through the centre bore so I wonder if this was throwing things out.

The maverick drives fine on these now but at 50-55 mph it has a fair old wheel wobble and the back end judders too, We have swapped front to rear and this made it loads worse.

I have a mate who can get away with fitting car tyres at his work (they don't deal with bigger stuff so he can't sneak mine in) and he said they feel more like the tyre is oval, but when we spun them when balancing they were pretty round.

Is it worth getting someone trusted to try to balance them? Last thing I want to do is go to kwik fit or the likes and get reamed for 4 new tyres!
The insas were part worns but with huge amounts of life left in them, and they were only £20 for 4 so I'm happy to pay to get these balanced as it's still going to be mucho cheapness.

try yellow pages, there must be someone in your area, just to be on the safe side check your u/j's on propsharft, :thumb2

I'll check the UJ's. I'm trying to avoid random yellow pages companies as they are the sort to stitch you up hence I was asking for a recommendation.

Thanks anyway.

You can try ATS, I know that they can also balance the larger wheels by means what is known as powder balancing like what they do to tractors or commercial vehicles

6 stud wheels should be balanced using the studs, not the centres. I'd take them back you your 'mate' and see if he can do them properly.
