Ok, I have my boost gauge fitted, and been watching it over the last week or so.

I am getting about 7psi boost normally, and once in a blue moon it touches 9 when pulling away, but then drops back to 7.

I was thinking of having a play with a Boost Control Valve, but wondered before I waste my money if they actually do what they say, or if they are just a boy racer gadget?

Your taking your readings from the IC aren't you & not straight from the turbo ? I get 1.2 bar from T'ing in at the turbo vac/pressure pipe which is about 17 PSI I think. Boost controllers can work if set up correctly so you have a high & low setting (his & hers:lol) but i've known quite a few blow there engines due to them TBH i'm a bit rusty on the subject these days but will try & find you some good info on them if I can unless someone else comes up with it first:thumb2

Yes, I have used a Banjo Bolt and tapped into the IC just above where it goes back down into the inlet manifold, so my reading as near to the inlet as practically possible.

This is just a simple bypass valve, that only allows the pressure to the waste gate when it exceeds the limit you set.Basically, it just holds the wastegate from opening early. I wasn't thinking of going silly, just maybe taking it up to the full 10 or so.

Yes most are a type of bleed off valve, think most people have the boost/bleed valves T'ed in at the turbo aswell as there gauges so they get a more true reading of what the turbo is upto, but with the way you have yours set up you could block off the fitting on the IC for your gauge & temp fit it to the turbo whilst you set things up & once done the max setting on the controller will be set (leave it plumbed at turbo) & you could move the gauge plumbing back to the IC if that makes scene:augie

It makes sense, other than why it matters where the gauge is fitted, surely I should be concerned with what the engine is seeing, rather than what the turbo is putting out...

Maybe I should fit a 2 way change over valve, so I can switch where it is connected, and can then see the difference.... now I did have a 12volt electric one once, I wonder where that went...:naughty

If you just wan't a little more I'd tweak the turbo a little but for adjustments to do with boost pressure should be taken at the turbo but every day monitoring your set up is best to see if there is a fault in the system:thumb2

TBH Clive that's a good idea as you would know what's going on with the whole lot:clap just got to find a good valve that looks nice & not like someone has stuck a bloody tap to the dash:lol:doh

very interesting this one, Ive been putting off fitting my dawes device and gauge because i thought i needed to plum my gauge in at the inter cooler to set the boost. Glad i read this because ive had probably blown something up because i take it the boost is higher at the turbo than what the engine actually sees. Right im off to fit the lot all onto the turbo :thumb2

What's a terracleaned engine when it's at home? :nenau

youve met my little terrors then, lol.

Its a machine that looks like an air con regasser but runs a cleaning fluid, it connects to your fuel rail and runs a cleaner through the injectors, egr, inlet etc etc and gives the inside of engine a good clean Think ed china did a jag on wheeler dealers, infact i think ed china is something to do with the comapany.
