Anyone an idea about this?

Hi everybody,

the body of my car has got three strips, attached to the inner sides of the back sides - at the left side they can be easily seen at the spot where the jack is situated. I wonder what's their function and if they would be missed after removal. If so, what is this material called so I can find new stuff?

The material looks like woven glass fibre, just take a look at a domestic fire blanket, looks very similar and cheap too for a square metre.

I've also come across this material applied to the inner rear wings of motors that I've owned over the years. I've never known the reason for it :nenau
I can't see manufacturers buying & placing it there just for the fun of it.

I did my vw t4 with a few rolls of roofing flashing stuff, vans only for work and I can almost hear the radio now :lol

Police car? Hmm, I bought it in Germany. In Germany from a dealer in occasions, who had used it as his own work horse. An originally Iraqi dealer, living in Germany. His hometown: Faluja, out of all places. The name Faluja is still printed visibly on the car...

Kevlar if thats the correct spelling to stop unwanted bits of metal at high velocity entering the passenger compartment perhaps.
