I need to top up our Picasso aircon.
I have spent a while searching the web, and this is what I have found:-

Formulae 1 £39.90
KwikFit £49 but with an on-line voucher 20% discount ie £40.00

Can anybody suggest where else I could go, a little cheaper, any special offers?:nenau
We are in South Staffordshire.

The new regs say that you have to test the system first before regassing, which is what the above do in the price... or so they say.:augie
The usual blurb.. it is an offence if you knowingly attempt to fill a system with a leak in it etc etc.. Which I guess makes those self fill systems a bit iffy...

However, as has has said before, heating engineers and plumbers release this same gas on a regular basis into the atmosphere when ever they use the pipe freezing kits. :doh:doh

Best regards,
Rustic

Kwick- fit don't pressure test or check for leeks, but if it dosnt work they will refund the full price........ I use this service to check if it works, if it dosnt all you've lost is time. I have had two vehicles with leeks in the past, they always say that the engineering who fixes them is on holiday !!! so took it to a local guy who found the leak and regassed it....sorted

The correct procedure in any case is to vac down to a near perfect vacuum, and it should hold this for a time period, indicating no leaks, also any moisture will boil and be removed, to simply recharge is not good because moist air will most likely have entered the system, and it will freeze at the expansion valve, not good, compressor damage! bear in mind a Kg of 134a is over £20 and your motor will require approx 800 grams, Rick

Aircon re-charge £39.20

Thanks for the input guys.
I read on other sites that they all use basically the same equipment that should vacuum down and test for leaks.

I will watch and enquire as I go, like
"are you vacuuming down now...?"
" will you go into the waiting room please sir!"

I want to watch them... my money, my car...

I have booked the Picasso in for Tuesday morning with quickfit,

Price £ 39.20 with a voucher booked on line.

For anyone interested, the voucher code when booking on line is:-

KFAIRCON20

OR you might want to wait until I report back.

Well done Kwik-Fit

Air con report back time.

Firstly, the air con is now fully working.:thumb2:thumb2

The machine they now use is automatic, it vacuums down, removes old oil, moisture, residues from the old stuff, then goes through a hold cycle I think, this tests for leaks.

If it passes this, they then fill it. :clap:clap

The whole procedure took just over the hour, ok the guys set the machine up... walk away fit a tyre or two then continue.

They say aircon repairs have a 12 month guarantee, but not sure if this actually includes the recharge.

Anyway, in the 8 1/2 years we have owned the Picasso, this is only the second time it has been done, and it is so so much better.
So can't be much of a leak.
£39.20 well spent.:thumb2

So thumbs up to Kwik-Fit at the Rugeley, Staffordshire branch anyway.*

* Note:-
I hold the right to withdraw this thumbs up to Kwik-Fit in the future if it fails in a reasonably short time...:lol:lol

There was me going to go into Halfords, buy their recharge kit, and adaptor, that is too short to reach, with a gauge that changes the reading all the time, and spend close to £50, by the time you have paid the deposit on the gas can.
The internet reviews of self re-charge are not that good, and do not remove the moisture, just adds more stuff to it.

So there you have it.
:thumb2:thumb2
I'm picking the wife up later, so I've put her coat in the car ready, she will need it....:lol:lol

Best regards,
Rustic
