from my own experience with diesel engines, not terry, white smoke(extremely excessive!!) was pump timing and glow plug fault. but that was on a vw t4 2.4d. same symptoms tho

Many thanks for all the replies!

Few things poss left out of description! Have checked water leakage, etc. Don't believe to be head gasket.

Have always believed it may be fuel line / pump related. hence replacing fuel lines again! :nenau

My fuel line has one of these priming bulbs as [makeitfit] suggested already fitted. When having problems getting truck going again after changing lines. This would lose pressure. I thought this would hold pressure once everything running & primed. Was going to try and bypass filter as a test.... friend has been helping with some of the work, will see if he tried this. (different work shifts unfortunately at the moment!)

May just get a new filter, as has been serviced not long before I purchased. So may be a cheap filter. FRAM the best to go with or any other recommendations for these?

Also, can anyone clarify if the 2.7 and 3.0 share parts? I realise there may be differences internally. But for example, I thought I may need to source a new fuel pump seeing as fuel didn't appear to be flowing through to injectors. And also it needs a sump more than likely. Unless I can repair (currently coated in something in an attempt to keep oil in!)

I see cncfabs may be the member to contact with regards to parts.....!

Plenty more to repair yet..... Needs a few paint repairs also, but they may have to wait until running properly!! :eek:

As far as the engines go I would be very surprised if the 2.7 and 3.0 share parts as the 3.0 is the same one that was put in the Patrols from 2000 on (albeit modified by that point to get rid of the issues with the early ones!).

Apart from the engines and gearbox (rest of drivetrain?) I expect the rest of the parts will be interchangeable between 2.7 & 3.0 Terranos.

Sure cncfabs will be able to keep you right though! :thumb2
 
Those priming bulbs are very prone to sticking, i'd try a new one.
 
Seem to be making progress.........

some-one asked about codes, well I scanned it when first home, but couldn't clear/start. due to starter!

I looked all of these up and started panicking!! :doh :eek:

Further to that though, truck has had the following done,....

Starter sorted
Fuel lines replaced
Disconnected MAF and tried a similar MAF (no change apparent)
Cleaned up fuel pump plug (corroded/green)
Changed 'spill valve?' from another pump, seemed spring was stronger
Found nachared glow plug (ordered and awaiting del.)
Checked injector seals (found one damaged - replaced all)
egr pipe checked
Cleaned part with two butterflies under intercooler (not sure what its called!)

repaired nachared front bumper
knocked dent out of rear quarter for repair
repaired window regulator

Getting there! Anyway, the outcome of all these repair/changes is the car is still smokey until warmed up and down on power. But currently I only have one code coming up on screen!! :clap

Which is a much better prospect! I still have code 0707 - Timing F/I.
I have run through the diagnostics in the R20 manual I managed to download. But looking for anymore help, as always appreciated!! Wonder if the timing can be checked on these pumps?

have you tried the ECU talk software ?
that brings up the gauges that measure the engine
and the codes,
also you could try the cleaning the crank position sensor
 
Had read about the ecu software. Can anyone point me in the direction of best place to buy what's required?
 
banshee has got his all sorted,software that is.
download it from there site,the free one.
I tried to run mine on win7 in USB but did not work.
will dig out old xp with the right plug and will try again.
do not want to worry you but just been all through this,get it started,won't keep running,lots of smoke,when it did run,did everything and bled all pipes to Ip even banjo fuel there bled injectors ,really good krank over very little fuel coming out of pipes,Ip low pressure pump naff
I had 10mm fuel pipes from tank top to Ip with no problem.
 
Not sure if there's a plug that fits the 02 3.0s? Was reading banshee's post. Understood the ecu talk. But not convinced/sure about cable to link.... What did you replace in the end to sort panelbeater? The injection pump?
