I wounder if any one could help with my query below...

My colleague at work has a 1979 Mercedes 350 SE (3.5 litre V8).

He had a coolant leak recently and unfortunately he only had an opportunity to top it up with water, now with the colder weather he needs to put some anti freeze in it.

It holds 14 litres of water, but we are scratching our heads in respect of what type of coolant to use, and its ratio to water.

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Mods, Please move this if I have listed it in the wrong place.

Thanks

Alan

I would suggest he or you seeks some specialist advice from someone as the SL shop or CheshireClassicBenz (to name two local to me ) as these motors are entirely alloy and using the wrong antifreeze type could well end up causing a dead motor and a huge bill...

Timbo,

Thanks, I will pass that on. I will also look up the businesses you have mentioned.

Alan

Timbo,

Thanks. I have emailed Cheshire Classic Benz.

Hopefully they will get back to me

Its a lovely motor, apart from the 14mpg he gets. It'd be a shame to bugger it up for something so simple.

If the system holds 14 ltrs ,then put 7 ltrs of blue ethylene glycol antifreeze in (Standard blue variety) and 7 ltrs of distilled water a 50% mix is perfect.

Cheers

Dave,

Thanks for that. I'll let him know.

Thanks to all other contributors as well.
