Have I done something wrong? Does anyone know what I should be doing next?
Hitting the orange bit with a hammer until it's not in the way any more ? Or get someone to cut it out and weld it back on for you.

Replacing the gaiters is easy, and they're about £7 a side. Only thing is if you buy the originals they'll just split again, and the cut to fit ones I bought didn't need cutting ! They were already the right length at the maximum.

So really just cut it away? I couldn't see what it attached to and didn't know what was underneath it so wasn't dead keen on cutting it.

It should just be plastic arch but if its the sill just knock it back as required :thumbs

Doh ! Had mine off last week to knock the dirt out. Cut and weld indeed ....:augie

Easy up guys, dont go cutting away there without undoing the inside first. There's loads of wires down there:augie
However a large hammer is all you need to makeitfit :lol
33s fit without cutting :D

Cheers fellas, I think I (we) will re-index the torsion bars, that way I should be able to get an extra inch or so lift (It still not level with the back, another inch should make it level) and that extra inch should mean less hammering.

Also, when taking out the torsion bars, do they come loose at the front or rear end of the car, I've looked at a few how-tos and it seems it can be either end.

You only need to re-index if your at the end of the thread...

You more than likely just need to wind them up :thumbs

I tried some more over the last couple of days, I can't get it any higher I have run out of adjustment on the torsion bars. So I removed the adjustment bolt to have a go at re-indexing the bars and the were stuck solid, the adjusters moved about an inch.

So I've decided to take it to a garage and have some new bars installed - mine are old, with some rust and new ones aren't going to hurt. I can also get it back to factory ride height this way.

Does anyone know of any good garages in the Manchester area and how much do you think I will/should be paying for new bars and fitting? Would I be better going to Nissan themselves?

oh you are not far from me then

their are couple on reddish lane that i have used

thats one of them good bunch of guys

ah so i would have driven past you at some point then lol i am in gorton

Cant see the point of spending big daft money on new torsion bars:doh
Just ask the garage to re-index them for you:thumbs

So I took my Terrano to a local garage who seemed fairly competent and the have installed some +2" springs to the back, re-indexed the torsion bars and lifted the front so its about 1.5" lower than the back.
It cost me 4 hours labour as the torsion bars were rusted in and cost me £140 inc. VAT.

My new wheels and tyres still rub on the front, but no-where near as much, a little hammering should be all that is required.
Here is how it looks now, with standard wheels on - don't the look tiny?

This is with 265/75/16 , fronts spaced out 6mm for MOT , hit steering arm on one side

ps have you modified your spare wheel carrier as your spare might not fit any more ?

I put one of my new wheels on the spare carrier and it just fits, a few MM of clearance with the rear step.

Darwin how much modifying did you have to do to the back of the front wheel arch, if any?

only thing it used to touch was the plastic inner liner and mudflap , now it has just ground that away and the mudlap I tool off. , touches occasionally on full lock and uneven surface , that will stop eventually.

Fitted my four wheels this morning, there is still some slight rubbing - but its drivable. I'm going to attack it with a hammer and chisel and bend the seam around a little.
So here it is:

So we ground the seam off with an angle grinder and there is no rubbing now.

I went to do some shooting yesterday and had to drive through some mud and a large puddle so some pictures were took;

Didn't do anything too serious, but it handled what I did do with no problem at all - I'm very happy and now I want to do some proper off-roading!

Do yourself a nice neat snorkel mate is my only advice :thumbs

Then you can go anywhere :thumbs
