them general UHP's look like pimps tyres to me, hard dry roads only! If you've seen them in real life you woudl agree, they're for wrapping round spining hubs :thumbs

Righty then, I've just ordered 4 General Grabber AT2 (I'll just have to drive it off road more) 265/70/16 also with new rims from JCS Wheels and Tyres. I should get them on Monday and I'll see how well they fit and what (if any) mods I have to do then I'll post up some pictures to show off my new toy.

So my new wheels and tyres turned up today, I threw one of the front ones on to check for size.
It fits fine but rubs on both the mud guard and the underside of the bumper. These can be removed easily and once I do a front torsion bar lift, I'll be laughing.

Also, does anyone know what the standard ride heights are, mine measures (from floor to top of wheel arch) 34" both rear, 32.5 passenger front 31.5 drivers front. Just wondering, it seems high but my previous car was an old Rover 400.

I put full lock on and it only seem to rub on the mud flap and front bumper. You can see the bit of bumper that's in the way in my picture, its pointing inbetween the G and R of Grabber on the side wall of the tyre.
And he does prices for a set of 5, just phone him up or message through eBay, THIS is one of his auctions. He was pleasant and very helpful on the phone.

Sorry I missed this question. I'm not really all that well up on tyres sizes (hence this thread) but looking around, 235/75/16 is a little smaller than what I have at about 30" diameter and 245/70/16 are a bit smaller again at about 29.5" overall diameter.

But like I say, I'm not much of a tyre expert so other people here might be better at answering that question.


On the plus side, I'm off for the next 3 days so I get to try and get my new rims fitted. I'm looking forward to it as long as the rain holds off a bit!

Looking good! Front end certainly seems a bit low but don't go too mad with the torsion bar lift..... the unnaturally large suspension angles that result can make your gaiters split as I found out to my cost. Just turn them up til the top of the front wheel arch is 2-3 cms lower than the top of the rear wheel arch. And it takes a while to settle properly so recheck them after a few days in case they need readjusting. :thumb2

It should then sit level with a light load on the back, but any significant towbar noseweight and you might find it running tail down a bit.....

235 75 15 are standard on my truck come in at 28" i am looking at 30/31"

Just for interest, 15" seemed to be standard on earlier trucks, moving to 16" on the MkII/IIIs, migrating to 17" as the T2 went EOL.

as they changed the wheels and tyre sizes
early ones had 205's on

205? sounds a tad weeeeedy.....but then its only just over an inch reduction in wheel height when alls said and done, and half of that in ride height reduction....

It will be a manufacturing thing. Price/availability of components, or tyres etc.., manufactrurer is always trying to shave a few pence here and there....thats why the Terrano/Maverick was basically the same truck for the vast majority of its life.

Yeah, I was looking at 235/75 on 16" wheels because I have a MKII. On 15" wheels, I've no idea.
I was going to lift the front so it was levelish with the back, but definitely not higher.

Does anyone know (I know, I'll find out tomorrow, it just my Dads helping me and I've told him its a nice simple job) if I'm going to run into serious problems installing my new wheels? Cutting/removing mud-flaps and trimming bumper don't bother me, hammering the wheel arch might...

I think you'll find its not the wheel arch per se but a seam that stands proud and just needs a few inches of its length hammering over til its flat, then a bit of underseal slapping on. And put some on the wheel arch while you're at it.....:lol:lol:lol

Re ride level, if you don't tow its fine but be aware (i) it will go tail down with a trailer on, and (ii) having front too high WILL bollox your gaiters eventually, and its a costly job to get them replaced (not to mention an MoT failure).

OK, I've lifted the front (which my Dad and I made much harder than it should be, somehow) and the front is now about 40mm/1.5inches higher than it was - I think we have run out of adjustment on the torsion bars, the next step would be re-indexing them, which I'd rather not do, if I can help it.
So I fitted one of my new wheels to the front, removed the mud guard, trimmed a portion of the front bumper, however the back of the tyre is catching on the bottom of the front wing - wheel on drivers side with right hand lock - and I can't see anyway round it, other than cutting off a big chunk of metal.

Here are some pictures that hopefully show what I mean:

Have I done something wrong? Does anyone know what I should be doing next?
