I must admit, I'm used to having a LSD on the Trooper I had. I rather miss it on the Patrol, if I park with two wheels on a soft grass verge and set off at speed. The Trooper just gave me a kick in the back and set off when the LSD locked - but with the Patrol I just get wheelspin.

It's only now that I haven't got a LSD that I'm starting to realise just how much it did. The Patrol has a locker, of course, but you have to do something to use it - i.e. put it in 4wd and then turn a knob on the dash - whereas the LSD just gets on with doing what it needs to all by itself. They are very useful. If you don't spend much time offroad, probably more useful than a locker.

Cheers

Keeny is you're an ex Landy owner, you'll be looking for a centre diff lock I'd bet. The T2/Mav (in common with quite a few selectable 4wd trucks) doesn't have a centre diff so doesn't need to lock it - this is also why you shouldn't drive in 4wd on hard surfaces. Even the tiniest difference in wheel speed will cause the transmission to wind up and ultimately something could break.

re hi

cheers lads oh my motor wichi foggot to put, its a nissan t2
2.4 pet nreg, wat about pulling caravan i was told to use 4high
then told to use 2high, my head spinning, dont fogget these motors
4x4 r very new to me, and i do respect all your answers what is given
to me.MANY THANKS TO U ALL..... 8)

When on the road or any firm surface, whether towing or solo, only use 2 high, having no centre differential in the terrano, 4wd should only be used on a slippery surface to prevent the transmission from winding up and causing undue stress.

No reason at all to use high 4 when towing unless you are pulling off a grass field.

You're the second person who I've heard recently has been advised to tow in high 4, some people seem to think that 4wd is a "must have" for towing - it isn't, but the weight of a 4wd makes them nicer towcars, and 4wd can be useful.
