Good evening chaps (and chapetts) :lol :rolleyes:

Had a very busy and eventful day today. Up nice and early left the house at 7:45 and was welcomed to this :cool: a frightful -2

The aim of today was to try and pin point my running issue, which was suspected to be a fuelling issue. A hunt for the mini filter began :thumb2

First bolt of fuel pump, it's actually encased in a hard shell of vegetable oil :lol

Removed the inlet/outlet (I forget which one) outlet I think :lol

It was at this point Rick was very keen to see the internals of this crazy gadget :augie

A spring under some sort of pressure with a few other internals... I'm use rick can explain in more detail :confused:

Typically on the way to ricks this morning once above 60mph I had the old eml light come on... Long time no see :rolleyes:

For a few mins on the motorway it would not go past 65ish, give or take and eml remained on. The car then pulsed a few times like it didn't want to go any further.. After a few more mins it was able to speed up again.. Touching nearly 90mph (on racetrack of course) :augie

Once we stripped and put back together after finding no debris ect we plugged in the laptop and read the stored code. It was the same as a few months back... Changing the Fuel filter rectified this last time, but it returned shortly after, we tightened up the filter and it had been good until this point :eek:

Rick plugged in the live data as I drove to try and see if anything was misbehaving, nope, all seemed to be acting ok, we payed attention to engine advancing and retarding too, which appeared to be operating as figures were changing according to driving style and speeds.

I put full throttle up hill and managed to put car into limp mode... :doh maf amp remained off after that :lol

The only thing I noticed on the way home is now something has been uncovered!! As before this was a semi intermittent fault (usually feeling lazy) it Is now very common and the faults are varying. It feels very electrical!

At speeds of 30 and 40 on the way home the car would all of a sudden feel like someone had "turned the ignition off" power just dissaparared for a second then resumed as normal.. And on motorway the car decided when it wanted power and when it didn't, varying from 50mph to 85mph.. Car would struggle to overtake on occasion and others speed past motors :lol

Something electrical is lurking, and it's more pronounced now than ever!! I suspect (hope) it's something near to the blocks at the intercooler as this is all we moved out the way to gain access to the bolt.

OK what we have here is a pressure regulator, out going fuel from the pump goes through the orifice in the sliding plunger which pushes it against the spring, and the fuel exits via the larger orifice, if the pressure gets too high then the spring is compressed allowing the plunger to open the smaller of the two orifices in the banjo bolt which relieves the excess pressure, this is important to keep the overall pump low pressure system within limits, Rick

There has been a filter inside the top banjo bolt on both of my TDI's take it this wasn't the case with Alex's Rick:augie

Nah that is unfair, he has an obscure performance problem that is intermittent and so hard to find, could be CKP sensor, Injector lift sensor, or more likely as my computer disconnected several times, a bad connection some place, so I am suggesting ECU connector corroded, (water leak from heater) other multi plug connectors, Rick
 
I'm trying to understand and follow this and all I can do is snigger at 'orifices' - I'm way too immature for this forum :eek:
 
Yup, it's a bugger :doh still as you mentioned Rick trial and error has to be the way forwards. I will grab a multimeter and test cps and injector :thumb2

I'd find it a lot funnier if we knew the answer though :lol

It's one of those hidden gremlins, been going on for months along with a multitude of various other issues making it very hard to detect...

A had a fuel filter issue, en an air leak issue (fuel filter housing) then an air filter issue all the time with this lurking in the background :doh

When the powers on the truck really does shift though :cool: maf amp is a cool bit of kit.
