Mine runs on grass
hello again been to get a new battery today new battery fitted in garage wouldnt start so i asked them to test it and they did battery was fine and old one fine as well??????
ha d to push start the terrano ,so whats happening is im charging it fully and the battery is holdiing the chatge start after charging fine about ten minutes 15 mins after been left switched off battery not enough power to atrt again ,so went to local garage who tested the alt thats fine tested the battery thtts fine ,so they suggest taking to autospark as there must be a drain on it somewhere ive took out the interior bulbs[ AND EVEN TRIES IT WITHOUT THE ALARM NOTHING I CAN SEE SO HAVE YOU ANY SUGGESTIONS
sorry for writing in caps im not shouting just pressed the wrong button:doh
1 Check the battery terminals, often the cable breaks at the connection to the battery clamp.
2 It could be a faulty starter motor.
3 have you any way of using an ammeter in series with the battery when nothing is switched on? This will check the normal drain, there will be some possibly 50 mA for the radio code, alarm system, and ecu on standby.
4 It is possible that the diode set within the alternator has gone faulty, you can get 4 amps or more drawn by this, to stop it, disconnect the alternator plug.
5 monitor the battery voltage using a digital meter, note it say every 1/2 hour to see if the voltage is dropping, it should be greater than 12.8 volts, all the time when left.
when you say the dfiode set in the alt ?
what do i disconect a plug when running or do youmean when i park it up ,will it run without this and charge
OK, Never run the alternator without the plug in, it can generate high voltages and damage internal components.
What I mean is, when the engine is off, and you are able to measure any discharge current from the battery, if it is in the order of AMPS then it could be the diodes in the alternator.
If it is, you will know when you disconnect the plug on the alternator, as the current will fall.
It is possible for the alternator to appear as if it was generating, but one failed diode is all it takes, to give a 4 amp discharge when it is all stopped.
been the auto electirician he cant find nothing wrong he says it the starter motor it also smells of burning funny as starting it is funny as i only bought it just a little over a yr ago online ebay from victoria autoparts 1 yr guarantee just ran ouit december great :doh
My "new" starter stopped starting but I still had a week left on g/tee :clap
Just for a change, all sorted now , sorry you missed out on yours. New ones now £102 delivered
PS that's new not recon.
If yours is sticking, you can strip it down and clean it, then put some proper elec grease on and rebuild.
no its not sticking its just starts perfect with a full battery first time then second then you try third and just nothing as if it takes loads out the battery so you only get one go at it and also get some burning electric y smell not all the time though, but auto spark has said everything else fine and it is that so ive got a go with it , been offeered one from scrappy 50 quid plus me old one .28 day grntee, yes i know but a new one 100 im hoping to sell tyhe car in the next few weeks ,i mean its all good apart from that so its on sale as soon as ,getting something smaller
It could be a shorted turn on the armature, so starting will depend on where the starter motor stopped. Hence the burning smell.
Anyone else doing their starter motor, use a universal joint on your skt and then it's easy. Also on the way back in use a shorter bolt on the top. Also clean them and lubricate. Fix with bottom bolt first.
Better still , do a body lift, then the starter falls out the side :clap
I've got a set of those ratchet ring spinners, I bought them from Aldi, and they have been very good at getting into confined spaces with very little swing.:thumb2you wont get a universal joint in there trust me socket wouldnt go in a spanner is the only way ive done it twice now and learned the hard way ,what you do need is thick skin on your knuckles

I promise you a 3/8" universal jointed socket and short extension works FACT:thumb2
