you would be far better spending the money on a nice box of belgian choccies and a bouquet of flowers for debs ....... im sure you will get far more enjoyment from that :naughty

Elderly customer of mine has one, says it is fantastic, he is 97 and has sight problems glasses and a magnifying glass needed to read the daily paper, but he can set the font size in this thing and read away no problem and the number of books it can hold is vast, so for those that like to read I guess it could be good, Rick

I cant wait for the wife to get one:augie
If I have to put one more book shelf up the house will need underpinning:doh
I'm holding out till they drop below the ton:sly

If you give her ideas i'll hunt you down and make you pay :D:D:D

a friend of mine has double vision after an accident, she used to love reading and her kindle has restored it to her :thumb2

i am unconvinced as i love holding a paper back in my hands - it's part of the reading experience - but when prices come down I might have a dabble :augie

Bought the wife one for her birthday a few weeks ago...she loves it:rolleyes: Dont get them personally as I prefer the whole 'book' thing but takes seconds to download a book and must admit it is a whole lot smaller than a huge book collection

I am a bibliophile by nature and years of practice, but considered a Kindle at the end of last year.

In the end, the fact that you had to send Amazon any PDFs you needed to read decided me against, as I have over 30,000 PDFs.

So I got a secondhand Sony PRS 600 Touch of ebay. It'll never replace books for me, but having the choice of 700 books to hand is a luxury, plus I have several weighty tomes for my professional work on it, as lugging over 2000 pages of manuals is just a non-starter.

When the Oxfam shop starts selling e-Books for 50p I'll think about it....:augie

Hi

I have one, would not be without it, get my newspaper on it ever morning(first two weeks are free), can also read PDF files as well, our local council now does e-books on line, so just download the book you want for free (time limit applies). If you are looking at getting one, make sure you get the latest one, as it has a host of extras e.g playes music also can read your books to you if you want.:thumbs

Price is now under a ton £89

The latest version doesn't have a keyboard, is smaller, lighter etc.

The Wife would like one for Christmas, anyone got one of the later units?
Are they any good?

Best regards, Rustic

I find the keyboard on mine very useful, I can't understand how I could get so much use from it without one :nenau

Thanks for that :doh The wife HAS seen the thing too, so it'll probably end up on a list

mine is the older one with a keyboard and it can, do everything you say (including reading to you) and surf the net anywhere you happen to be. What I don't get is how do you enter text (for example a web site address) with no keyboard?

Don't know but is it touch screen so the keyboard would be on the screen might be wrong as I have not seen the new 1.

I'm not convinced but then i wasn't convinced by them at all until I bought on and i think mine is brilliant :thumb2

I'm pleased I resurected this post, thanks for the information.
I saw the Kindle advertised from Amazon at £89, but I didn't know that Tesco also sold them for the same price.

I might as well get one from Tesco and get the club card points.
I'll keep an eye out.
After sale ssrvice at Tesco is .....for example I returned an 11 month old kettle, broken.. no probs here is a new one complete with a new 12 month guarantee.

I'm not sure the screen is a touch screen.
When I had a quick look, the keyboard appears on the screen, and you have to navigate it using the 5 buttons on the pad, which is slow but effective for limited use.

Similar to the old space invader games of the 70's.:doh
