working on a td terrano, please help ... i think my waste gate valve is stuck open or closed . how do i free it
what direction should it move front to back or back to front

its the valve on he turbo connected by a threaded rod

I wouldnt think it is stuck either- if it were open you would get very poor performance, if stuck closed it would be over boosting, and you would hear the turbo's distress.

the threaded rod is under high spring pressue in the closed position until the turbo makes boost, which is applied to the rubber diaphram against the spring, until it is overcome and the w/g opens..

ok well i have poor performance so im guessing its stuck open. i have only 2mm movement on the threadded rod and thats pushing hard

i still need to know what way to force, it to try and free it or check if i have more movement,

how easy should it move

What you have is correct- pushing away from you towards the bulkhead opens it.

The spring within the diaphragm holds the w/g shut...

have you cleaned your MAF sensor? Has a big affect on performance and so easy to do, ten min job.....bri
