Hi,

I've got a question regarding the air intake pipe. I will check today again but after inspecting pictures that I took the engine compartment recently I realised there might be a small hall on the air intake pipe near from the air filter side.

I look for the parts and these are not too expensive, around £20. But as I'm a quite novice engineer so not sure if I can easily replace this pipe or just wondering for now if I can seal with the tape, would it work? I thought the only problem would be the heat when the engine is running. But as it's a pipe to take the air so it won't be too hot, right?

I can post a picture later today if it's better for you to see.

Any advise would be great.

Thank you!

It really depends on where the hole is:-

If it is in the large pipe that runs from the filter down to the turbo, then putting tape round that would be quite difficult, as it has many undulations in it, and getting the tape to stick to the pipe would be difficult. Not only that, but to be able to wrap the tape round the pipe would probably mean removing it in the first place, so if you have it removed, you may as well replace it... Removing it only requires removing 3 jubilee clips, a large one on the Turbo, and other large one on the air filter, and a small one from the crankcase breather control valve.

If it is the pipe on the intercooler, then it is still a fairly easy job to replace, and again, while trying to wrap it with tape, you may as well replace it.this requires the removal of the 4 nuts that hold the intercooler in place, and then releasing the clips that hold the pipes onto it. While doing this job, it is worth replacing the Nissan clips with Jubilee clips as the Nissan clips weaken with age/removal, and allow the pipes to start leaking, which can cause running issues.

Thank you all - I was late to take a pic in the darkness with flash, but managed to take one. I realised this could be a hole by looking at this picture taken shortly after I bought this car;

Then today I re-took the same pipe (sorry for different angle)

The fist pic must show a something on a pipe, not a hole to conclude. Sorry for making a silly mistake, but I'm relieved as I was almost about to get this air intake pipe off the eBay.

Thank you, Banshee, Lazy-Ferret for your advice:thumb2

ok an easy fix,dab a bit of silicon sealant or any thing like that to seal it.

I think he was seeing things that weren't there guys!:nenau Unless he's magic:lol

Oh snap!!!!!

I didn't read correctly, that's mad!!!! What was it a leaf or something :nenau

* hole (from the beginning):doh

I really thought it was a hole - but possibly a small leaf or something. But for my future reference - I'd get a silicon sealant as I haven't got it.
