hi guys , I have a problem with my air con and it is that it does not work .The compressor does not seem to switch on. is this because the gas is low in the system.is there some kind of pressure switch in the system that is not switching the compressor on . I would be very gratefull if any one could give me any advice. thanks rich

Short and simple answer:D

Ok, I'll expand....
The ac pressure sensor/switch is on the n/s front by the radiator.
If the refrigerant gas pressure is either too low or hi it will inhibit engagement of the ac compressor clutch.
It may be faulty?... Or low on gas?

90% cos it is low on gas cos of a leak, bin it, it is not worth the hassle, and the increased fuel consumption, just open a window or two, Rick

If the pressure switch is accessible then unplug it.
If it is a 2 pin then bridge the connectors on the harness side with a split pin, if 3 wires then look at the wiring diagram and bridge the power and signal wires.
See if the compressor clutch then kicks in and you will have confirmed low gas pressure or a defective switch.
If still no joy, check for power at the compressor. There is a relay between the end of the battery and the wing alongside the glow plug relay. The wires in to the base of my relay were for some reason mangled and torn out!

yup, as above, check the pressure switch and gas - you may have a leak so check around the pipes top of radiator as that is a common weak spot.

hi guys. had my air con gas refilled to day but it is still blowing hot air !!!! the guy at kwick fit said it has no leaks and the compressor is not kicking in because it does not have any power to it . checked the relay out side of the car and it seems to click .the question is ? is the relay or air con system ecu controlled or does any one else have any ideas !!! to what could be wrong . thanks rich my car is a 55 plate 2006 terrano 2

he is a very very clever guy if he can say you have no leaks, did he vac it down for for 4 hours, I guess not, crap firm crap result, Rick

can't complain they didn't charge me a penny as its still not working . cheers rich

Silly question but if compressor is turning and the high pressure pipe with the service valve in is getting very hot like mine then r u sure the heater control has gone back to cold I dont mean the control knob the cable sometimes doesn't pull the vents and I think it has 1 hot water valve on the heater it self if not the heater will blow warm as its still in the heat possion mine was like this now its sooo cold I have to turn the blower down:bow
