a trip down the breakers is needed me thinks to try and find new pipe

You've a pipe missing there i'd say!!

You'll also need a new dryer and a flush too, possibly a compressor overhaul. With the system open to the air for any length of time is not good.

Your T2 has an oil cooler also?? Not seen one of them before..

wel that would make the air con not work.

I did read on here some air con pipes are prone to leack, but can be fixed with some off the shelf plumbing fittings. mirco boar i THINK its called

I am scraping a Mk 1 petrol with AC but have no idea if the bits are the same, I would find a pipe fit it and vacuum it down, charge it and see, that work and gas will probably cost £80 plus, just been out and had a look, nop hoses on the petrol totally different, Rick

When you find a pipe it needs vacuuming down to check for leaks and refilling. It may also need oil as well as refrigerant so go somewhere that understands air con. Check the air con pump engages the clutch at the driving belt before spending money.

my air con doesnt work either and i have no intentions of having it repaired i tend to drive with window down most of the time can you run with the air con belt off as i am about to order a new set of belts ?
cheers

if the air con belt is on its own like the 2.4 petrol then take it off, no sense in turning a pulley for nothing, I am just about to remove mine as the AC does not hold a charge and the belt is noisy, but bad back has stopped play at this time, Rick
