The air bag light on my instrument panel flashes continuously. Is this normal and if not could it be the reason for poor engine performance.

I know it probably has nothing to do with our motors, but i had a Ford Fiesta, when the air bag light flashed,i was told and found out that the alternator was goosed and i was running on the battery.
this did happen to me on a busy road, but managed to get it into a lay-by..lol

This could have nothing to do with this, just a past experience...lol

My T2 did that when I first got it. It turned out to be something called a spiral wire, it sits inside the steering wheel where the horn push is.

i had a simular problem with my maverick what i did was get in the car switch ignition on with door closed dont start engine open door and press door light switch 7 times rapidly then shut car door and start engie if it dosent work repeat it worked for me regards brian

Try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins this should reset the airbag ecu if that does not work then its probably telling you you have an airbag or pretensioner fault, if you were near me i could sort it for you foc but i dont think you are :(

joemcflyukperu,

You could try the following to see if it works on your motor and help find any fault.
It is the procedure for reading air bag fault codes on the later Terrano II

1.Ensure ignition switched OFF
2.Open drivers door
3.Switch ignition ON
4.Check SRS light illuminates
5.Operate drivers door switch 5 times within 7 seconds of switching ignition ON
6.Count SRS warning light flashes & note trouble code.
Each trouble code consists of two groups of flashes separated by a 2 second pause.

To erase any codes found turn ignition OFF after accessing them in step 5.

If this works let me know the code and I will try and tell you what it is.
