Aerial on roof

How do you remove the base of the aerial from the roof?
I've managed to bend the aerial whilst putting it in the garage and the little metal screw tab has been pulled out.

I'm guessing the aerial cable runs in the roof liner somewhere ?

Or is it a case of admitting defeat and using a booster internal car aerial?

you need to remover the door rubber and drim around the back door. its a hard linner so wont drop and sag, but can be pull down enough to get your hand in to fiddle with whats needed.

What aerial did you buy for your roof (for the car radio)

Done that aerial damage a couple of times to the rear mounted twig on my old '96 T2. Remedy - just stick it back in with two part epoxy - worked every time! (At least it did for me) It contacts with the metal tab inside the mount which in turn supplies the signal through the coax to the radio.

I think I may have bodged it back together by cutting down the top of the aerial base and inserting the metal tab that the aerial screws into back into it the base and then using some milliput to hold it in place.

Will tell you if it works, if it doesnt then I will have to look on ebay and find out if its cheaper to go for an internal amplified aerial + the cost of the stereo keys or pull the exisitng aerial out following Zippys advice on how to do it and replace it with a shark type (just going to solder the new aerial leads to the new one )

The trouble is, after getting the roof liner down enough to do the job, I found that the connection inside was a male,the connector on the aerial lead is male too!

Can anybody else confirm if their aerial lead in the liner is a male or female connector? I expected it to be female seeing as the connector on the aerial lead is male. I just wanted to check it out further before sending it back.

Further to my post above I contacted the shop where I got the aerial & they have been very helpful indeed,but today have told me to return the aerial as Celsus are unable to supply an adapter.

So my question is this:

I have some pics that i have sorted to help ID parts & point out which end is which is my photo,but can anybody tell me what adapter I need for this aerial to connect to cable under the roof liner?

been looking at dab heads, which say need a special aerial
either on screen or typically mag on roof.

anyone know if the functions can be combined, or if a dab will
do analogue.

seen adapter that allows a cb aerial to run the fm head.

only issue with having a cb twig in existing head aerial is swr as either
end of roof, plus how big a cb aerial is versus twanging it on height barriers,

If it was me I wouldn't be trying to use a cb ariel designed for <30mhz for either fm (88-108mhz)or dab (217-230mhz) unless as a temporary measure for example if an Ariel got broken the cb ariel should be better than no ariel at all.
I would imagine an fm ariel would work quite well for dab and swr wouldn't be an issue as its a receive only system. However, since dab is roughly twice the frequency of fm I would be trimming the fm ariel to about half its length so that it's closer to 1/4 wavelength at the required frequency and should be more efficient (and lower profile)

sounds fair, the cb as fm radio isnt something i fancy , but aware the adaptors
been on market years.

looks like going to need to start an aerial farm, as will need one for ham too.

I need some roof rails to mount my aerials on. Totally agree about the CB aerial being a non starter for the car stereo VHF receivers.

My Dab units arial is powered by the head unit,it's an internal one stuck to the windscreen, no reception problems at all.Might be worth noting that DABs is going to be the only signal in the not to distant future, there was a date set to turn the fm frequencies off but for the moment it has been recinded.

It'll be a long time before fm broadcast stations get turned off, the uptake of dab has been really slow. That's from a source at Arquiva who run most of the transmitters.

sounds familiar, there was a time when it was felt analogue tv wouldnt go due to
cost of stb's. of course tech gets cheaper and was virtually given away.
