advice!

hey guys!

looks like I need a new water pump - Jim popped over today and noticed a tiny droplet on the ground, its not leaking much but as we all know its probably time to sort it out.

so, I am ok with doing the job, but while I have the front off etc, I figured id resolve a few other minor irritations.

I seem to have some sort of leak right inside the engine bay near the starter. I don't know what the part is but can anyone identify what this is - you can see the blob of fresh oil, I THINK the oil is coming from above that "bolt", but it could be coming out im not sure...

so I want to fix that, and I figured id have a look for the banjo bolt to see if there is a filter inside, is this the bolt?

I've also got the front propshaft UJs to do as well so cars going to be off the road a short while, figured id go to town on it and get a bunch of niggles sorted, hope you can help

You can run with no front propshaft, I did for weeks last summer.

Can you see the "oil cooler" plate above starter on the side of the block. Is that in good order or even bolts nipping up. Thats what was leaking on my 1996 terrano. Bet you can sort all those jobs without taking it off the road pal.

Water pump on my to do list got the tell tail signs of it starting to fail.Only a couple of hours job if you take your time.
As for your oil leak check the o ring on the dipstick.
I had one in the same area and it was running down the tube onto the engine and starter motor.
I got the o ring from my local compressor place as motor factors Couldn't get one.

sounds interesting Jim, was that the one attached to the dipstick? I think where I see it its further forward - I have no idea what that particular part is - I need to check a diagram!!

I am going to do the water pump and that job at the same time, as well as the prop shaft UJs, may as well.

The dipstick tube has a bracket that is fastened to the block by one of the oil cooler bolts, that bolt had been removed by a dodgy mechanic to remove the dipstick when he was replacing the starter.

I am going to investigate that one tomorrow because I suspect it'll be a bolt that needs nipping up - found that a LOT on this car.

Oil pressure switch could be another one to look at.

good call but I checked that, seems clean. I just cant get in to properly inspect. As far as I can see, it isn't the dipstick bracket - it seems further towards the front and I can see a upward facing bolt like thing, almost like a filler bolt with the square hole in the middle.

I will use the borescope to have a proper look - saves taking everything apart first to get a camera in...!

I may not have one, but I am going to check when I do the water pump....mines an 03 plate but I think the location is the same?

return pipe to tank - check!

mines a bosch I believe...

If Bosch then from memory it is the pipe at the front but could be wrong as memory is foofed, but easy to check, just locate the one from the filter, then it is the other one, or if you can see the injector leak off pipe to pump then this is the one, Rick

If it's on the return pipe to the tank, then one of the symptoms of a blocked mini filter, according to the workshop 10, is low revving, low power, fuel starvation etc
So how can this be?
