Advice please!

First DONT let R1cho near it, he sets them on fire.

Second, you dont need to weld anything. As long as you have secure fixing "Bolts", some one did this fix on here a few months ago and posted the pics. All he did was cut the section out and had a section of box section cut and had two plates welded on to it, the put 2 holes throuh it and bloted it back in place.

I spoke to my mot man as mine needs doing and he told me doing it with bolt is fine, it does not say anywhere in the MOT book stuff has to be welded as long as its solid.

The guy that did it had a black terrano, sorry that all i remember.

cheers Kamsin, I have seen these front cross member fixes, and although mine does need doing, the part that NEEDS welding is the bit BEHIND the crossmember part-where the bumper bolts go through. I am not sure what to call the bit that is broke, but its attached to the chassis, and fixes the inner wing and front crossmember to each other :/

not difficult to get to or anything and I have seen pics of someone who simply welded plate in to bridge the broken bits....

Not one to influence anyone, but i bought a sealey mighty mig 100 a couple of years ago, good value and as far as i can tell. Still a fair price on ebay. Im no expert nor a welder by trade but my welding attempts on my Mav passed the mot last year, Mot due gain next week, fingers crossed, tips on welding i just found interesting,

I suppose another way of looking at this issue is, I could claim the remainder of my tax back. Go buy a mig and some steel, and practice. When I am happy, do the main repair. Those tutorials look good too so thanks for them, I might also text my mate Martin just for some advice- i know he says to make sure i have an extinguisher and some heat resistent padding to place near the work etc...

yeah but u'll be welding 1-2mm steel, we welding 3mm+:augie :lol could do with a bigger ampage for some of the stuff we weld i.e. the digger bucket lol & getting the smaller one fixed too

and ours was bought from ebay too for £450
