I have the opportunity to buy a 03 plated Terrano 3.0tdi, this has a problem however and i will be buying it blind as i have just come out of hospital and wont be able to do much with it for about two months if i buy it.
The Terrano runs for a bit and then cuts out, it keeps doing this.
The guy who owns it has replaced the turbo (i dont know why) because of this problem but it keeps happening.
Any thoughts as to what it may be ?

Running and cutting out sounds like a fuel ( a blockage in the lines) problem to me.
Good luck with the recuperation.

Sorry to hear about the Hospital stuff, hope recovery is going to plan, re car bad fuel filter comes to mind but also swirl chamber in fuel tank (debris will cause that problem) as will an air leak on the suction line, and last but not least the fuel pump although rare, also worth checking the codes, Rick

First thing to do is to change the fuel filter and banjo filter on the pump and go from there. A very over due obstructed air filter can cause it to run then stop.

Question to all: Just wondering as I saw one on ebay.... Is it possible to have a 3.0L with the intercooler vent in the centre of the bonnet?, I thought they were all offset and only the 2.7was in the centre. :nenau

Not standard bud, all are offset unless someone's been messing ;)

i'd add a full service,

last winter i had all sorts of issues with the 2.7, disconnected egr, changed maf
to a second hand then new one, then in desperation did air filter, resolved!
hadnt done it before as was no where need a service or so i thought.

ref bonnet scoops, 2.7 is central with rounded ends, 3.0 is offset and more square
cornered.

many a listing is wrong seen early y61s listed a 3.0 and well past engine change
in trols as 2.8, guess many traders just dont know or care. oddly on trolls they seem
to have the 3.0 offset scoop even on older ones.

That's the one from the bay, going to look at it tomorrow with a pal of mine who can crawl all over and under it and give me a full report on it. (He is a trouble shooter for a well known car manufacturer)
Will let you all know how we get on

Good price if it stays there and it should be an easy fix, does sound fuel related. The filter/swirl pot checks are 1st port of call, good luck

Being back with your Nissan friends will help.
In fact we are all here to help.

Am I missing something? Where's the link I want to see :thumb2

Yeah fuel blockage sounds probable to me, get that mini filter out the IP if it has one and check the swirl chamber for debris, I doubt it will be the swirl chamber though as it's a 3l and can only run on Diesel so less likely to be sticky and have pulled crud through.

I'd have my money on fuel filter :thumb2

Isn't the swirl chamber in the tank Banshee??, if I remember rightly, you had an issue with this. :)

Great news!

Young Mr Solarman has very kindly agreed to collect it for me and do the neccesary to get this beast up and running correctly.
I am not able to do the work due to an operation and lets face it, what Rick dont know about these things you lot do!!!
As rustic says , "Being back with your Nissan friends will help.
In fact we are all here to help."

So now i have somewhere to put my dog guard again!:clap:clap:clap:clap

Great news and words fail me once again, Rick you are a gent.

Something to look forward to when you are back on your feet. Whilst your waiting take a look at my project thread, whilst you've been away I've got together with my son to fix up an old truck. Having a real blast and so proud of my son.

will do jim, but wont that project thread start putting those weird ideas in my head again???

i am going to go on a welding course, think its a skill that i am going to need in the not so distant future lol

I'll hire my son out lol.

Mind you maybe when you've recovered you can do some preventative maintenance on your new truck.

jim, the best thing i could do to stop the downward spiral of my truck is to stay away from it lolol
im already thinking of stuff like lifting it and bigger wheels for ground clearance etc etc etc etc etc !!!!

lets just get her running sweet firstly eh but the ideas and snorkels and cb's and green laneing....... calm down phil!!!!!
