Adjusting drivers door help

Hi all, can anyone help please?

When i open my drivers door it seems to drop a little, now i have checked the hinges and the pins and there is no play on them.

When i close the door slowly the striker hits the catch and seems to lift slightly and then lines up and closes.

My question is if i wanted to try and adjust the door slightly which of the fastening bolts do i undo to adjust, the ones on the door or the ones on the pillar?

Open the door fully, and check the play in the door up and down, does sound like worn hinge pins.

Also check the security of the hinges and how much the door post or door edge move or distort, there could be rust or a broken weld.

I don't think adjustment will help, as the door does close so the play / movement is taken up.

Get someone to lift the door for you and watch the hinges.


Has it just gone like that, or been getting worse over time.
This might help to "Pin" point the problem.

I have only really just noticed it, there is no play or flex, so I feel a little bit of adjustment would fix it but which of the bolts will give me the adjustment I need?

I had the same problem on the drivers door, hinge pins slightly worn so door was <~5mm low at the striking point on the pillar, and of course, finally the lock stay would lift it into position.
I adjusted the door hinges on mine.
You will need to remove the plastic liner inside the front wing then you can get a ring spanner on the bottom hinge mounts, the top mounts are readily accessible.
With the top hinge mount slightly loosened just enough to allow it to move, and leaving the bottom hinge fairly slack. Then with the door open about 150mm I used a trolley jack and wood packing under the bottom of the door to lift it into the correct position before tightening off the hinges.
Been as good as gold since.

Note: the door is HEAVY!

That sounds good advice, less than 1mm at the hinge will give over 5 mm at the catch, so do it in small steps. :thumb2

I have replaced hinge pins before on BL cars, as there was no adjustment on the door pillar as they were welded on hinges, even then the new door pin still had some play in the other part.

Just need some grease at every service that's all.

Spray grease works well here, as the solvent in it carries into places that would otherwise take an age for it to migrate into.

I bought a tin of the white spray grease, but due to the solvent you have to shake well, as if it was a tin of paint. It also comes with a small tube similar to WD40 to get to those difficult spots.

Really good, I used it on the gear selector mechanism on the Picasso, which is below the gear lever gater, and it got to places other greases couldn't get to. Brilliant stuff.:thumb2

hi is there any thing i can do to the drivers door to make it close better(after the wife was getting out of the mistral and the wind caught it and blew it open )
we can now hear too much wind going past as we drive

Yes that is a good fix Ray but most I have seen have had that done already to the limit, indeed my own had that treatment a while ago and it now needs a little more so when I get round to it it will get the wedge treat ment, but as I say ant body shop it is standard stuff, Rick
