what gains do you get if you were to add an inter cooler to the TD engine ??

and can you not just add a fmic to the arrangement

What's a fmic ?:nenau
In theory an intercooler can offer you around 15 bhp extra on the TD without other mods. Best to crank up the fuel pump and put a little more boost on the turbo for best overall gains:naughty
Give Timbo a shout he's the turbo/fuel pump guru :thumb2

fmic front mounted inter cooler

ah i see might see if it is worth it lol

would prefer to have 70 mph at arround 2500rpm

Wouldnt bother going front mount :nono i looked into it but you would have

so much lag due to all the pipe work

Play with ya boost n fueling :naughty :thumbs

Plus front mounts are legendary for filling with mud over here!
A problem you probably have a bit more often than us Oz offroaders :D

Make sure you fit a good Oil temp and pyro guage first before you mess with the turbo or its dead turbo for you!

Very easy to blow a turbo that's cranked up without the right warning guages

13-14psi on the stock turbo generated by enough fuel (NOT winding the wastegate up so tight it is solid) will be safe enough in terms of what the turbo is safe at, and egts.

and yes, I would go with a FMIC if you can.

Pipework does not create lag.

My mav had a front mounted cooler and other mods and was a lot better than my TDI,

Is it just a case of removing the metal bit on top of the rocker cover that says TURBO on it an replacing it with a tdi intercooler or is it far more complex? The Mistral has a bulge on the bonnet so anybody know if that would clear the intercooler?

Cheers

Stuart :)

i htink the front mout intercooler filling up with mud argument, doesn't hold water (pardon the pun). The radiator is at the front and that seems to do ok, and if your intercooler gets muddy = performance may drop slightly, radiator gets clogged = engine can go bang! And the cooler would keep mud off the rad. We have a ford ranger $x4 that has a front mounted intercooler and has no problems + up from is where all the cold air is, the top of the engine is hot!

these people used to do a kit for a td t2 http://www.allisport.com/updating-page.htm

i can't find the pics on ther site but they might email them to you!

Wouldnt be going for a front mount if anything i would be keeping it as simple as possible and as cheap as possible,my dad had a 2.5 pajero that had an intercooler on top of the engine and no vent on the bonnet so was thinking the Mistral might be ok aswell.

Ah so they did i do remember seeing that coming to think of it,it wouldnt be to hard to do the same to the Mistral as long as there is enough space above the engine.

Turbo n fuel boost

Put a snorkel on so got plenty of cold air going in fitted 8mm fuel pipe from tank to pump but how do I turn up the boost on the turbo and turn up the fuel pump
