I have herd recently of several people with English registered and insured cars( tourists and people who have homes here ) Who have had trouble claiming after accidents with French drivers. One chap had to resort to obtaining security footage from a DIY store car park to prove that a truck had hit him, as the driver later denied any knowledge of the collision.
All French drivers have to carry in the car with them a form ( Constat amiable d'accident automobile) If you are in an accident involving a French driver you must both fill in one of these forms and give a copy to the other driver, You must both sign all the copy's. If these are not completed then it can cause all sorts of arguments and delays in your claim.
French drivers are very aware of this and should know exact what to do and how to fill out the form, but to make it easy for you I have posted a link bellow where you can download the forms in English. John :thumbs

This is a standardised form for many european countries, we have just the same in Belgium. Always have a few in my car.
Taking pictures helps as well!
