ABS Warning Light Fault

Have not used this Truck for awhile as wife's car is more economical.

Now need to get through MOT. Spent few hours scanning through posts but now wondering if anyone can help as can't find same issue.

1. This light will work as it should do when ignition turned on e.g. on/off for a second.
2. You can drive car for about 5 miles and then light will come on and will stay on. You can turn ignition off after doing e.g. thirty miles. When you have left the engine turned off, waited and tried it again it will work normal e.g. flash on/off.

3. So then you are back to square one knowing after approx 5 miles light will come on.

Brakes seem to be working fine.

Any thoughts.

yes dont worry as the mot guy wont be driving it for 5 miles:lol:lol:lol:augie so it will pass the test if thats all thats wrong with it just means u need to pump the break old fasion style abs:lol:lol:lol:thumbs

This is a common ABS fault on older vehicles. When you switch off it just re-set the system so you loose the fault warning. Pretty sure there is a fault code diagnosis for ABS.

I assume that you have the same diameter wheels all round and that the tyres are all worn evenly. If you have one new tyre on the same axle as a well worn one this can be the cause due to difference in diameter makes the ABS think a wheel is slipping. Also worth checking the wheel bearings for any movement as well as making sure connection to the ABS sensors are sound and corrosion free.

In my experience its a waste of time replacing the ABS sensors if the impedence check is OK.
Other likely cause is false signals from the ABS due to corrosion on the reluctor rings. Never had mine apart so not sure if the reluctor rings are a seperate part or built into the drive shafts.

I think I can remember someone telling me on my earlier posts, many months ago, that I should get a S/H laptop so I can plug into my own fault code reader. Do you think if I am keeping this truck I should go this route as it would save me time and if so will i find it easy to use?

Thanks to all for your help. I have had brakes apart cleaned the dust out, cleaned wheel cylinders up and greased with rubber grease (I know that you musn't use any other type of grease). I cleaned up, as advised, also adjusted front wheel bearings that seemed OK and they only needed a fraction of adjustment.

I also checked out the wiring from the rocker cover and seen that someone had been in there before with a naff connector so cleaned this up and put in a proper connector.

So not sure what caused the ABS light to do this but I know that I took it out on road test and it worked perfect. Been for MOT this morning and passed with flying colours e.g no referrals. So really pleased. Thanks again
