The ABS warning light comes on when starting up and then goes out.As you drive forward a couple of yards it comes on and stays on. The ABS is off and the brakes work in fall back mode. For the MOT the problem was identified as the drivers side sensor by the self diagnosis plug in code for the front offside.
Sensor and sender disc replaced problem persists There was a post on here which mentioned a fault in the wiring somewhere behind the engine 2.7 tdi. But I cant find it to refer to

Having not seen the code reader could it have got left and right mixed up and the fault is in the nearside/passenger side sensor??

The costs are mounting and I can hear the cash register ringing any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

its usually just the wires that need replacing, not the sensor.i did both sides on mine and it worked fine eversince.
you have to cut the wires as close to the plug one end and as close to the sensor at the other just leave yourself enough wire to solder a new peice on.
seal the joints with heatshrink insulation and job done.
cost me about a tenner and a couple of hours to do both sides.:thumbs

& if you know the brakings all A1...
Take the bloody out :augie :lol

Anyone have a diagram of those wires and where exactly cutting is to be done. I had similar problem with ABS light coming on and staying on after getting front brakes done but it seemed to sort itself out after about 60 miles driving. Still having some problems with the brakes though and would be good to know how to replace the wires if needed in the future. I will see put up a new post about other brake problems and see if anybody has any suggestions.

Thanks for that but despite the fault indicating the drivers side front sensor which has been changed the fault still shows on the fault reader. I have read on this site some months ago reference to another fault in the wiring harness at the rear of the engine where the harness goes thru the scuttle. Anyone remember this?.

Would it be worth disconnecting and reconnecting the battery to see if it will reboot?

I still need help

I don't know anything about the reference to the harness fault you mentioned but I remember reading in a Haynes repair book about clearing or resetting the diagnostics on the Terrano/Maverick. I will look it up and get back to you before the end of the week.

Haynes Fault Codes book says that you can clear the faults on the ECM by disconneting the battery for 24 hours. But doing this erases radio codes and other settings and apparently it requires driving for 30 minutes or so in different driving conditions for a relearning process to take place with the engine management systems. That said, I have disconnected the battery on a number of occasions although not for 24 hours and never noticed anything unusual on reconnection. The ecm will also be cleared after starting the ignition 50 times without the same fault reoccurring. You can also use a jump wire or cable and insert it into two of the ecm terminals for more than two seconds. But I'm not telling you to stick anything into the ecm but I can get you the details of how to do it if you are feeling lucky. If you have a fault code reader it should be possible to clear faults using it. But before you go doing any of these is there a light flashing on the ecm to confirm there is a fault stored on it that need to be cleared.

Centurion, Just noticed that there is a useful item by Toolbox on the downloads section of this site about accessing, erasing etc. error codes. It might be of some help.
