If the abs light is on would it fail a mot? I did have a break in the abs cable, repaired it but the lights still on.

ABS light

Yes it will fail if there is an ABS fault present as indicated by the light being on.

& dont take or disconect the bulb as that is still a fail.!

Check the ABS Sensor & work ya way back.

If ya can get ya ecu cleared that should clear the fault.

:thumbs

how do i get the ecu cleared? does it have to be done through diagnostic equipment?

:augie It's only a fail if you take the bulb out or put some black tape over light.. If the MOT man spots that it hasn't come on in the first place:augie

If he does spot it deny all knowledge and your no further backwards:thumbs

This is not a solution... but will give you the time to sort the cause at you liesure and without being held to randsom for an MOT

What vehicle is it on???

I had all sorts of trouble with my audi A6 over new year. the ABS ecu brought up a sensor fault.. changed the sensor.. still brought up a sensor fault...changed the ecu with another item from breakers £125 the ecu was faulty..

Google www.ecutesting.com

I sent them the ecu them, they repaired it in 24hrs and sent it back for £99+vat still going strong!!!:bow

Generally Yes! Local Garage should have all the kit

you should be able to buy the lead and down load some free software.. but wether you can make any use of the info is a lottery at best.. I did read the fault code but it was the ecu at fault throwing out false codes!!

i know my jeep has gone through the MOT about 4 years with the ABS bulb removed, when the inspector tells me to goto the passenger side and then i make a point of chatting to him to make him not as observant lol.

my truck failed because of the abs light, it comes on and goes out so quick he thought it wasn't working, it took 5 mins to convince him it works, he got there in the end. :doh:thumb2

traced all the wires back and found no breaks in them, some one suggested joining the abs light to the oil light so they both come on and off together for a fix for the mot

 Oh and don't be fooled when you ask for technical..:eek: and a woman answers the phone:eek::eek: She definately knows her onions and ECU's:confused::bow

my view is ... the abs light is on for a reason , and needs a good investigation as to why its is showing a fault , hopefully it is minor , but it would be foolish to ignore a warning or to bypass it so it doesnt work as intended .

Just get the ecu cleared :thumbs

If it's that simples... There may be sommet bust!!!!

I hope you are that lucky:thumbs

Does the ABS stil kick in.. I know its hard to tell in this weather!!

Don't rely on it till it's sorted:thumbs

Any way stop showing off with your fancy ABS's Ecu's n stuff.

My first 3 cars didn't have brake servo's or power steering!!

AND the first one had indicators that waved out of the B post!!!!

LOL!!

Real drivers do not rely on ABS anyway, most motors I have had that have had it fitted I disabled it, same as air bags disconnected on mine always, you should drive knowing that if you hit something its gonna hurt, too many fly around regardless, thinking if I skid, ABS will protect me, if I hit something my seat belt and air bag will protect me, most people have not seen an air bag go off, we detonate them regularly for demonstration, every one that has seen, without fail has been shocked, Rick sorry think I have gone off thread a bit there.

I agree! when my wife was learning to drive the first thing we did was an emergency stop...In the wet... with plenty of space around.. I said hit the brakes as hard as you dare, the ABS kicked in and she took her foot of the brake andwe sailed on down the road! Now she knows what to expect it should do it's job!!!
