Still looking for a new off-roader to replace the Trooper. Seriously considering Terrano TDi SWB.

Only problem I can see is..........

rear drum brakes?? anyone have problems with mud and crap getting in and rusting them?

No problems at all and at least the handbrake will work on drums provided you keep it adjusted.

Hi Mundy
My Terrano has been abused off road now for 3 years and its only the last 2 times out the rear brakes have been playing up. Thay are due fo a compleat overhall to get them working properly again.
My car is only used off road so running them in mud and water all weekend and then standing for a month hasent helped them.

No problem mate:)
The last 4 weekends I've been out and in deep deep water n mud :D
No problems with the brakes:thumbs On a diff. job I had the rear drums off the other day and all was clean n dandy:thumb2
The only problem I've had though is the starter motor seems to suffer prolonged from dunkings:augie
So that's coming off tomorrow for a clean and some scoosh:cool:

Mines just the niggle that we all have :augie
Should of been springs NOT a bloody Torsion Bar :doh
Otherwise :thumbs

 Still think a Zuk Vitara / jimmy :augie :sly :naughty :D

Guy at work here is thinking of selling his Jimney

BFG's 2" suspention lift..

will ask more if any intrest...

Sounds good, won't do any harm putting a bead of silicone or some grease round where the join is will it.

Trooper being picked up tomorrow so can start looking, seen a couple on e-bay going for fair prices.
will keep you posted.

Should be able to get a-
2inch lift at rear
and 2 inch on torsions shouldn't I?
Plus would I need new shocks for that?

The limitations of the front suspension aren't down to them being torsion bars just the fact that its an independent twin wishbone set up.

You could replace the torsion bar with a small coilover unit in place of the standard front shock (with suitably beefed up mounting points) but you wouldn't gain anything.

Twin wisbone IFS is common place now on midsize 4x4s and pickups, Pajero, Hilux, Mazda and Ford Pickups, L200, even Land Cruiser Colarado.

IFS makes for great road manners but limited travel - could be worse could have Macpherson Strut IFS like X-trail, Free Lander and R50 Pathfnder/R3m - now that really is road biased suspension. Wishbones are a compromise between road manners and offroad ability.
