A knights Tale

A long time ago (last year) in a mystical land far far away (France)
there lived a trusty knight (that's me) and his trusty steed "Terrano".
together the rode the trails and lanes of yonder land.
One day the Knight noticed that Terrano was not as he should be and
was suffering with a complaint known as dodgy motorus startus.
He was distressed by the thought of having to take terrano the the local shaman
(the garage up the road) as they would want to remove said appendage and replace it
with one costing many sheckles .So was contemplating performing surgery on the beast himself.
But then out of the mist, (fog over the channel) came a hero (Rick)
and wheedling his mighty weapon (angle grinder)did shamfer the splines in terranos motorus
startus to allow easyr connection to the ringus gearus. And all seemed well.
However after sir Rick had departed it became clear that this had not smited the affliction
and terrano would occasionally still cry out in grinding agony when asked to start.
One thing the Knight did notice however was the pain only seemed to occur when something was
switched on at the same time as starting (wipers -lights- radio) and if he made sure all was not on
and did leave it an extra couple of seconds after the glowus plugus lamp had extinguished
It would never happen.
So it seem Terranos affliction is electrical and not that of a mechanical form.
Duth any of you good sirs (and ladies)have reason to believe they know the
cause of this strange melody, if so pry postuth on this noble forum

Maximum or Minimus Voltagus, or Erroneous Voltagus......big family....process of elimination of switches whilst encouraging startup motorus.....

may I suggest you try a different battery dear knight ?( or night :augie:lol )

joking apart , I would first examine the battery connections ...... they come loose / corrode and may not be able to supply enough current .

secondly as suggested try a new or different battery , it may be that your current battery is at fault .

as young briggie has stated it sounds like you should check your battery and also both battery leads and terminals.
Check all earth leads going to your battery and engine, always best to grease them up a little to stop corrosion and oxidization of connections and terminals.
Do not forget to check the terminals them self, these sometime snap or crack and this gives you less current and voltage.:thumb2

I don't think its the battery as it's showing a good 12_14 v on ecutalk. and connections are fine I have checked them. the connections to the starter are fine also. when we had the starter off and connected it to a battery on the bench,we noticed that if just the motor was connected then the shaft only through out part way, but if you connected the nacelle it came out all the way.
and I think that's what is happening its only coming part way out,Rick can probably explain it batter than me.

Looks to me like a weak solenoid, you should be able to source one from a starter/alternator refurbish place, if they exist in France, if not a new one should be available on the net, I would look for you but just had a really hard day and am bushed, Rick

That means getting one from the UK as recons are not readily available here
It would have to be a new one 400-500 € or if I could get a recon through a garage that would be 300€ ish +fitting.:doh
When the alternator was on the way out on my Mazda I got a quote from the Uk of £80 exchange,but it went on the way to st malo and it cost me 560€ for a new one.
