Hi Guys,

The Terrano is great but today i am catching up with a few things that need replaced and a service but i have a few questions:

- Three new drive belts, can i get away without removing the fan to replace these? i searched but could not find a guide to fitting these.

- New horn as that stopped working ages ago, what type do i buy? seems a few versions available

- Replacing drivers door card, is this easy to remove and replace/ any special tools needed? have bought a new one that hasnt had an elbow put through it haha.

Thanks in advance guys, cannot believe i have had the terrano for over a year, thats a record for me!

All the belts can be done without removing the fan, surprised your horn does not work as you have two, so would not have expected both to fail at same time, think there must be a relay for them but not sure, yes door card easy to change, sometimes the 10mm bolt holding the pull handle can be difficult if it has been off before and damaged, Rick

New Horn? My terranos have both had two, a low and a high tone so surely if one was faulty the other would still sound. Check your fuse as mine stopped working and it turned out to be the fuse. Horns are located behind grill/front bumper, I did try removing the driverside and test on the battery which worked so then went back to the fuse. The driverside was a pain to get to without removing grill and front bumper. If you check my project thread there may be a picture showing the horns on the front panel.

Sorry can't help with the others.

As Rick said about the 10mm bolt on the door handle, it does have a cross head screw driver slot but someone had used that and damaged it on mine. I found it much easier to use a socket on it. A 10mm socket should just fit inside the hole onto the bolt head.
Careful doing it back up as well, it felt like it would be quite easy to over tighten and strip the bracket the bolt secures into.

Slight correction, the bolt is M6 with a pozi drive head, if replaced it might have a 10mm AF hex headed bolt. I'm surprised there's room for a 10mm socket. Might have been reamed out for clearance. :nenau
Unless mine is different, but mine is still original, door cards been off a couple of times, once to install a master remote central locking solenoid, and again to waxoyl.

Another Nissan penny pinch, the later ones only have 1 horn. If not all, then some years, as Suz's only has one. Not even the wiring for a second.

My Mav has hex head with pozi, I got a cheap set of those thin walled box spanners just for doing this/

Thanks lads. Will be on this today and will let you know how it goes. Door card never turned up so that will be next weekend.

The horn just faded out as i used it a while back, been okay not having it but drivers in edinburgh are crap haha.

update.

Door card was super easy with some panel removing tool thingys to pop the clips.

two main drive belts were easy and slipped over the fan no problems but i couldnt see how to adjust the lower smaller v belt to get it off.
I could see the top bolts but nothing underneath. i was doing this on the road so couldnt get under it to check but is the adjuster bolt on the underside of the thing? pump thing haha?

Checked horn fuse and all is good so must be a failed horn and i can only see one on the drivers side, tiny looking thing so is it worth upgrading this as it sounds shite to be honest more like a wet fart than a proper horn noise telling people to get out of the way haha.

Thanks again lads and happy saturday, im off t pub...

So after searching online i have found its the air conditioning belt that i am having trouble with, when trying to change this from above i could not see the separate adjuster that sits above it and tensions the belt. is this a spring loaded adjuster or do i need to undo a bolt as with the the other two belts to slacken it off? or like the power steering it has a tensioning bolt?

thanks in advance.

Hiya mate, I have the front end off of my truck and can see the adjuster front on, I will take some pics for you :thumbs

The adjuster you want is not on the air con unit, it is on a seperate small pulley next to it. It is the long headed bolt you can see in this pic, above the pulley itself with a sharpie pen touching it, the air con unit itself is down and right, there is no belt on mine...

Look closely and you will see an arrow I've drawn pointing to a threaded bolt below the tensioner pulley, that is the bottom of the adjuster bolt seen before....

I tried to get as much of it in the pic as I could, cooling fan is in the way :doh hope these help mate :thumb2....

Hey terranosaurusdoug.

Nice one on the pictures man really appreciate it. this forums brilliant! I will get it jacked up tomorrow and have a search. Just to clarify is the bit the sharpies touching the adjuster? Sure will see once i get a look at it. Really appreciate it

Cheers again mate!!

Sorry being a dumbass and just figured it out so the pulley moves up and down on the bolt. Gotcha! Cheers man

Thats the one mate, hard to explain in text really, the air con compressor is fixed solid.

In the pics though I have both the aircon and engine coolant radiators removed, you will probably only see the adjuster from the top...

So.. I tried to loosen the above pulley today, the bolt would come out but the pulley would not move, i tried to tighten it to see if i could work it back and forth and get it moving but it still would not move.

I now have the air con belt over tightened as it will not loosen and the aircon unit is squeeking like fek. Can i just cut this belt off, does the air con work the fan? and im guessing i will need to purchase a new pulley?

any help here would be appreciated. i have finally stripped apart the horn and it was just a corroded connection. so one things fixed haha

I cut my air con belt off no adverse affects :thumb2, does sound like pulley is stuck, try persuading it a bit :D

Nearly there mate, to adjust the air con pulley you first need to slacken the nut in the middle of the pulley, Rick
