Well I figured i'd start myself a little project thread seeing as i've already got the damn thing in bits.

After getting home I promptly got it jacked up and gave the underside an extensive jetwash.

Aside from some small bits of welding needed on the inner arches and some tidying up of the chassis it's a pretty clean old bus.
Main issues I found were the leaking sump, a perished clutch hose (explains the poor clutch pedal) and a couple of snapped bolts on the undertray.

After committing to changing the sump I dropped the diff out on monday in preparation for the new one. Also had a play with the welder getting all the old snapped bolts out and fitting some new drop links.

Whilst the diff is out of the way and access is better i'll drop the gearbox off and throw a new clutch in so its one less thing to worry about. After that's all boxed up and sorted i'll continue giving the car a thorough going over before she's back on the road, then the modifying can begin :naughty

Looking at a new wheel/tyre combo but still not sure what setup to go for. The plan is to fit a set of modular/steel wheels with some road biased tyres but may fit something more off road biased if prices are reasonable.
I'm also toying with the idea of a winch bumper but i'm not sold on the AJS version as of yet, if anyone has any pics of one it would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway, apologies for the essay, will try and update as I go along. Hope everyone is keeping well!

Damien

OK looks like you have got it all pretty well sussed, good job, Rick

Thanks Rick. Hopefully once all the little issues are ironed out I can get round to tidying up all the little bits. If I can get my Daihatsu finished and sold i'd like to add a LWB 2.7 to the fleet.

Apologies for the lack of updates. After picking up a spare sump which needed a fair bit of work itself. I bit the bullet and ordered a new one from the US. I really don't fancy having to pull the sump off again so decided this was the way to go. Hopefully this should be here next week so the rest of the work can continue and get it back on the road.

On a separate note. Is anyone using the Tuff Torque modular steels that milner sell? I've been looking at the 16x7 ET9. Is this a good size or is it worth going for a wider wheel?

I'd personally go for a zero off set 8 j then you can go up in size of tyre without any worries :thumb2

I think thats where the price jumps up considerably though. Would love some of the weller style if possible. Is there a greater choice of tyre for either the 15x8 or 16x8? Going off the standard size there doesn't seem to be much available.

You can fit up to a 31/10.50 15 standard rim but will need to either lift the body or suspension 2" to get the front to clear.

I know :( Should have ordered the sump earlier but with most dealerships closed round here i've had to source one stateside. And I will once I can crack on again :lol

Most people would have given up mate, respect :bow

Nah, i'd like to stick with this project and have a bit of fun with it. Just didn't fancy having to drop the sump at a later date if the old one started passing again. Atleast with a new genuine pump it'll last longer than i'll keep the car. Plus we've been busier than ever with work so haven't had as much time to play with it. On a side note, fancy making up another set of ramps lol :naughty

:lol need to finish them first.
I actually gave my sump a brush with wire wheel in a drill today and painted it with some very very good paint I got from buzzword, I don't want to be messing about changing a sump in the future :(

I'll try them out if you want lol.

And yeah its not too bad if they're clean to start with. Unfortunately the steel round the welds seems to be the worst part. I did consider repairing and sealing mine with some of that Glyptal paint they use in engines, only problem is its stupidly expensive lol.

Unfortunately Rau the Maverick has gone to a new home. Someone waved plenty of pound notes infront of me whilst picking some spares up, would have been silly to refuse so this so onto the next project. Watch this space!
