Hi lads and lassies, is it possible to fit either a 6speed gearbox from a navara or change the rear diff ratio so the terrano will cruise at lower revs at say 80mph? I travel a lot and recently a lot of motorway driving and 65-70 is a bit slow for me. Im not some know it all mechanic so open to any ideas here, cheers in advance from the guy that asks too many questions haha

What a crazy idea but I like the sound of it, don't know enough about the Navara's to say if it would work or not :nenau

Larger wheels and tyres will have an up gearing effect, but you won't notice on the speedometer though, so check speed vs GPS

Since you will be doing 80+ mph, a better modification, might be a bigger fuel tank lol.:doh

I have heard of someone swapping nav gearboxes into terranos but they were 5 speeds. I wonder if black taxi's had 6 speed?

hmm okay so not heard of yet i was thinking the newer but not current navara as it still has the split box 4wd, probably a mega pain in the ass mating it to the engine, custom prop. just a random idea i had coming home today. anything above 70 and the fuel gauge just flys through the fuel. haha.

I reckon you'd need to take gearbox and transfer box from a Navara to make it work but remember the Navara is electronic 4x4 switch, no transfer lever...

Might as well include diffs too, so why not suspension, then chassis ...:augie
Might as well buy a Navara, but watch out for chassis rust.:doh

how about an overdrive, could then split 3rd 4th and 5th.

be handy if a six speed straddled the ratios of the five as i reckon
having first deeper than it is and 6th higher than our 5th.

pity that high ratio in them is 1:1, as when i had an old rangie the
high was 1.12:1 and some folks inverted it to give a fixed overdrive.

So in theory we just have to swap our ring gears out our gearboxes then and put 6 thinner ones in lol :nenau
