Hi guys I've just sorted the bloody noise this oil burner of mine makes:D
Took the crappy little stock speakers out today and fitted some old JBL 6 x 9s
A few pics show just how:cool:
It was easier than I thought and they fit without cutting the door cards or plastic pocket bit:thumbs
Had to cut a bit of the door metal work for the speaker cage to fit but that was it.
The speaker then fits within the existing door card hole and then the plastic grill and pocket fits over it , job done:clap
Now I can turn the amp up and drown out that bloody tractor engine:lol

Sounds good back ones on sunday:sly
Do you know how to post images from photo bucket?:nenau

Just learning it myself:augiewhat I did was go into my photobucket account & right click on the IMG link & copied it then pasted it onto my post, I don't know if it makes any difference but I had both sites up on my screen

yeah but its pics of the whole truck we want to see.... we aint seen it yet:augie

Nice pic's Makeitfit:thumb2 good old JBL GTO's I have a pair in the back of mine which are 11 years old now & as still as good as the day I got them:D:thumbs

Found those old JBLs in garage after the wife suggested I had a "tidy up":augie
I guess they're about 6 or 7 years old :thumbs
Not putting the tidy ones in till I've seen how the doors are in deep wet stuff:sly

Where you going to mount some in the back ? I built an 19mm MDF shelf to house mine but am now thinking of poss building 2 MDF plates to fit into the rear panels either side of the rear seat (SWB) to house the 6x9's in or just getting another set for there aswell:lol

Yep got some old free air subs 8" I think:sly They will handle loads of welly and across mid range too:cool:
So the back panels are going to be massaged to get them in. No shelf going in as its always in the way:eek:

good upgrade, pix little large side but hey i quite like the tractor sound, now i can tell
when mrs is round t'corner on her way home just like dogs' sixth sense or what ever
they use.

I can only just get the photos from my phone to the site let alone squashing them:augie
Must try harder next time:cool:
Pics of the amp next week:sly

I see you went to the bother of removing the grill thingy from the trim panel.

I left the grill on and attached the speakers to the inside of the grill, placing them as high as possible in the space. I was able, with the use of spacers, to have the speakers tilted upwards to project the sound up.
One teeny con, the 4 black attachment screws will be just about visible from inside the car. Big plus is a good fit and faster cleaner job with less door mutilation.
I hacksawed just 2 small cuts about a 1/2" deep, to slightly widen the bottom part of the opening for the speakers on the door and bent it over with a few hammer blows. With hindsight I could have just about managed the fitting without cutting into the metal.

Remember
The stock speakers are pure cráp, no more justification is needed for this upgrade.
Buy 6x9 speakers at twice the price of what you are prepared to pay in the first place.
Buy 6 x 9s for rear doors as well.
Replace the speaker wiring as well - good quality(hiflex) speaker cable.
Clips? to secure thicker speaker cable to speakers.
Flexible sealant to secure pvc sheet to the door. The old sealant will have lost a bit.
Optional but recommended, some sound deadening/vibration muting padding strips to apply (with the aid of a heat gun) to the inner part of door (the part that you can gain access to when the old speaker is taken out).
Or for a cheapskate like myself a few pieces from one of those tarry roofing repair rolls.
For trim panel first time removers, the cross head screw securing the door handle to the trim is also a 10mm bolt. Use a slimline 10mm socket to unscrew it.
Pull out trim panel from below then up and out.
The trim panel is well made so no fear of plastic bits falling off, it's made to survive being ripped off with vigour time and time again.
.

Cheers mate. I left the outer grill on 'cause I always bash the door one way or another when messing about offroad.
There's also a tweeter higher up on the door, so directional speaker action not so important for me, but I know what you mean.
Since those went in I've put some 10" big boys in the back, and all sounds good now.
I'll update when I get the amps sorted.:thumbs
Show s your pics:sly

When I took off the door trim panel, I did not remove the outer grill from the trim panel.
I left the outer grill on, I just attached the speaker directly to the inside of the outside grill.
If you know what I mean :)

The only visible difference now (after the trim panel has been stuck back on the door) are the 4 black screws going though the grill to secure the speaker. And you would have to strain a bit to see that.

Pictures?? if I had a working digital camera. I have plenty which, within a month after purchase, specialise in developing serious operational errors, not photos.
